Since some time ago I like romances a little more serious and surrounded by secondary plots than juvenile ones, they are usually more entertaining and easy to digest but there are many of them that pretend to solve everything with the force of love, and honestly I don't find it very realistic.
"From Lukov With Love" has that spark of romance surrounded by secondary plots and problems of the protagonists that makes you never get bored because there is always something new to know. Mariana Zapata worked it very well and I understand why it went so viral.
Now, let's go point by point.
¡Hola, hola! Si eres nuevo lector, bienvenido, soy Nieves, escritora a ratos y lectora empedernida adicta al romance, la fantasía y al misterio. Hoy te voy a contar mi opinión sobre «From Lukov With Love» de la escritora estadounidense Mariana Zapata.
Desde hace tiempo me están gustando más los romances un poco más serios y rodeados de tramas secundarias que los juveniles, suelen ser más entretenidos y fáciles de digerir pero hay muchos de ellos que pretenden solucionarlo todo con la fuerza del amor, y sinceramente no me parece muy realista.
«From Lukov With Love» tiene esa chispa de romance rodeada de tramas secundarias y problemas de los personajes principales que hace que no te aburras porque siempre hay algo nuevo que saber. Mariana Zapata lo trabajó muy bien y entiendo por qué se hizo tan viral.
Ahora sí, vamos punto por punto.
Synopsis:
If someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last season of her life in a single word, she would surely use one that would have to be censored.
After years of dedication and countless broken bones and commitments, she knows her chance to pursue figure skating professionally is slipping away. However, when the offer she's been waiting for finally arrives, it comes from an arrogant jerk who is also her nemesis.
But perhaps the time has come for Jasmine to reconsider many things?
Among them, Ivan Lukov.

Si alguien le pidiera a Jasmine Santos que describiera la última época de su vida con una sola palabra, seguramente utilizaría una que habría que censurar.
Después de años de dedicación e incontables huesos y compromisos rotos, sabe que su oportunidad para dedicarse profesionalmente al patinaje artístico está esfumándose. Sin embargo, cuando la oferta que tanto estaba esperando por fin llega, lo hace de la mano de un idiota arrogante que es, además, su némesis.
Pero tal vez haya llegado el momento de que Jasmine reconsidere muchas cosas…
Entre ellas, a Ivan Lukov.
My opinion:
Let's start with the main characters, I love them both, from the beginning they are very well done and even though you don't know them you get a pretty clear general idea of who they are. The story is told from Jasmine's perspective so we get to know Ivan's "arrogant, stupid and smug" through her eyes and it's quite nice to peel back layers by the protagonist's hand. I like Ivan's character because from the first page you realize he is a braggart but not rude or a bad person. I think on two occasions he was a little rude but the book explains it to you and never justifies it.
I have to admit I fell head over heels in love with Ivan Lukov, for goodness sake, he is an amazing character!
Jasmine's family is fantastic, I absolutely loved them, and the scenes devoted to them were never unnecessary to the book because they were funny and gave us more context about who Jasmine was.
Mi opinión:
Empecemos con los protagonistas, me encantan ambos, desde un principio están muy bien hechos y aunque no los conoces te haces una idea general bastante clara de quiénes son. La historia está contada desde la perspectiva de Jasmine así que al «arrogante, estúpido y presumido» de Iván lo conocemos a través de sus ojos y es bastante agradable irle quitando capas de la mano de la protagonista. Me gusta el personaje de Iván porque desde la primera página te das cuenta de que es un fanfarrón pero no un grosero o una mala persona. Creo que en dos ocasiones fue un poco grosero pero el libro te lo explica y no lo justifica nunca.
He de admitir que me enamoré perdidamente de Iván Lukov, por amor a Dios, ¡es un personaje increíble!
La familia de Jasmine es fantástica, los amé totalmente, y las escenas que les dedicaban nunca fueron innecesarias para el libro porque eran divertidas y nos daban más contexto sobre quién era Jasmine.
The narrative is good, I warn you that it is slow burn, the relationship between them is slow but you always feel the tension. Ivan in a way has always been in Jasmine's life thanks to her best friend (Ivan's sister) and it doesn't feel forced at all the way their relationship progresses.
Jasmine's ghosts, from the fact that she has never won any awards, to her insecurities with her father, her family... If I had to say something not so good about the book, it would be that sometimes Jasmine would give too many turns to the same topic, it's not bad at all because the book is written as if we were inside her head, but sometimes it made me a little uncomfortable. I empathized a lot with some of Jasmine's problems and I cried in several scenes.
La narrativa es buena, les aviso que es slow burn, la relación entre ellos es lenta pero siempre sientes la tensión. Iván de cierta forma ha estado siempre en la vida de Jasmine gracias a su mejor amiga (hermana de Iván) y no se siente nada forzada la forma en que avanza su relación.
Los fantasmas de Jasmine, desde el hecho de que no haya ganado ningún premio nunca, hasta sus inseguridades con su padre, su familia… Si tuviera que decir algo no tan bueno del libro sería que a veces Jasmine le daba demasiadas vueltas a un mismo tema, no está mal del todo porque el libro está redactado como si estuviéramos dentro de su cabeza, pero a mí a veces me incomodaba un poco. Eso sí, empatice muchísimo con algunos problemas de Jasmine y lloré en varias escenas.
If you like movies or series about sports, you will like the book. They make a lot of mentions of figure skating competitions, techniques, moves, discipline and the truth to imagine every move was fun.
The ending is great, I would have liked more details in the epilogue because I was dying to know how people react to their relationship. It was a bit dreamy but it was well written.
So far "From Lukov With Love" has been the best romance novel I've read this year. It's fun, it makes you desperate, it makes you fall in love... For me, a total 10/10.
Si te gustan las películas o series sobre deporte, te va a gustar el libro. Hacen muchas menciones a concursos de patinaje artístico, técnicas, movimientos, disciplina y la verdad imaginarse cada movimiento fue divertido.
El final es genial, me hubiesen gustado más detalles en el epílogo porque me moría por saber cómo reaccionan las personas a su relación. Fue un poco de ensueño pero estuvo bien escrito.
Hasta ahora «From Lukov With Love» ha sido la mejor novela de romance que he leído éste año. Es divertida, te desespera, te enamora… Para mí, un total 10/10.
