Saludos a los amantes de los libros. ✨🌈 La vez pasada traje al blog una reseña sobre uno que también tiene detectives y asesinos en series (el jardín de las mariposas). Me gusta el género, pero se podría decir que, desde que perdí mis libros digitales, no he sabido qué leer.
Tenía una biblioteca virtual con libros que deseaba leer, pero al perderla, no los he recuperado. Me hice con libros nuevos, mientras tanto. Entre ellos, estos dos, que no tardé en leer nada.
Fueron una elección al azar, y debo decir que estoy gratamente sorprendida de este último. Les dejo algunos datos del libro y mis impresiones. 😊
Greetings to book lovers. ✨🌈 Last time I brought to the blog a review about one that also has detectives and serial killers (the butterfly garden). I like the genre, but you could say that since I lost my digital books, I didn't know what to read.
I had a virtual library with books I wanted to read, but having lost it, I haven't gotten them back. In the meantime, I got new books. Among them, these two, which I didn't take long to read at all.
They were a random choice, and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by the latter. I'll leave you with some facts about the book and my impressions. 😊

Fue escrito por Peter Swanson y publicado en el 2020, tiene 300 páginas, por lo que es rápido de leer. Pese a que se habla seguidamente de otros libros y a veces esto resulta un poco "largo", no se hace difícil de comprender ni pesado. Como es importante que esta mención esté presente, el autor lo hace ligero de procesar.
Tiene un lenguaje sencillo que es fácil de seguir, y a mi parecer, esto, y la forma de contar la historia es lo que mantiene enganchado al lector. Quizá incluso más que el propio misterio, algo que me deja sorprendida, ya que por lo general yo siempre estoy en estas lecturas por desvelar al o la culpable.
Esto quiere decir que me gustó y conecté con el personaje principal, que es el encargado de llevarnos de la mano por esta particular historia. Una vez quieres acompañar al personaje, nada te detiene de seguir leyendo.
It was written by Peter Swanson and published in 2020, it is 300 pages long, so it is a quick read. Although other books are mentioned in succession and sometimes this is a bit "long", it is not difficult to understand or heavy. As it is important that this mention is present, the author makes it light to digest.
It has a simple language that is easy to follow, and in my opinion, this, and the way the story is told is what keeps the reader hooked. Maybe even more than the mystery itself, something that leaves me surprised, since I'm usually always in these readings to unveil the culprit.
This means that I liked and connected with the main character, who is in charge of taking us by the hand through this particular story. Once you want to go along with the character, nothing stops you from reading on.

¿Qué tan extraño y sorprendente es que, en un día cualquiera, un agente del FBI te busque para hacerte preguntas motivadas por una lista literaria que publicaste años atrás y que no siquiera recuerdas con exactitud? Esto le sucede a Malcolm Kershaw, copropietario de una librería de suspense llamada Los tres demonios.
Un día, la agente Mulvey decide hablar con él porque encuentra una conexión entre los asesinatos recientes y la lista publicada por Malcolm, titulada como el libro, Ocho asesinatos perfectos.
La agente cree que el asesino está guiándose por esta lista para matar, y nadie mejor que Malcolm Kershaw para asesorarla, por sus conocimientos literarios y porque es el autor de la lista. One day, Agent Mulvey decides to talk to him because she finds a connection between the recent murders and Malcolm's published list, titled like the book, Eight Perfect Murders.
The agent believes that the killer is being guided by this list to kill, and no one better than Malcolm Kershaw to advise her, because of his literary knowledge and because he is the author of the list. They work together to try to shed light on this case, although at the same time and for obvious reasons he is suspicious.
Mi opinión ✨ My opinion
Como mencioné al inicio, algo que realmente me gustó de este libro fue el personaje principal y cómo me introdujo en la historia. A un ritmo pausado (pero nada aburrido), dándome a conocer detalles necesarios para ir armando el rompecabezas (sin excederse) y terminando cada capítulo de forma que quería empezar el siguiente.
El inicio fue sencillo, así que no entiendo por qué me sentí tan cómoda desde que empecé a leer, quizá por esta misma sencillez, o porque uno de los lugares donde se desarrolla la historia es una librería.
Debo admitir que, luego de haberme enganchado, y cuando Malcolm nos habla más acerca de sí mismo, pensé: ¿Otro personaje con un trauma cliché? (Ya que afirma no poder leer más ese tipo de novelas de suspense, quizá por una situación del pasado).
Decidí confirmarlo por mí misma y a cambio descubrí que me gustaban mucho esos capítulos dónde nos habla de su pasado con Claire, la esposa fallecida a causa de un accidente de tránsito. Este es otro personaje que me parece muy realista, pese a ser poco convencional.
Con respecto al misterio de los asesinatos, y como es típico de estas novelas, empiezas a sospechar a diestra y siniestra. 😆 ¡Todo el mundo te parece sospechoso! De pronto cualquiera podría ser el asesino, incluso los agentes de la ley. Una locura, por supuesto.
Supongo que es por la forma en la que Malcolm nos relata la historia, ya que no podemos estar desde la perspectiva de los demás, solo lo que él ve y sabe, lo que decide decirnos y lo que decide ocultarnos.
Esta historia tiene giros que uno no se espera, que te dejan algo confundido, sorprendido y de cabeza. 🤯 Algo que me gustó muchísimo es que al finalizar la lectura no me sentí engañada como me pasa con otras lecturas, y esto es algo que agradezco mucho.
Los cabos sueltos y las cosas un poco "incomprensibles" o que parecen están sobrando se esclarecen y tienen su motivo de estar. Me preocupaba quedarme sin entender ciertas actitudes de nuestro personaje principal, pero no fue así. De hecho, me gustó mucho que esta novela se enfocara también en la parte psicológica.
Reconozco que por un momento esperé otro giro en esta historia referente al asesino en serie, algo loquísimo que me dejara súper sorprendida, pero no fue del todo así. Sin embargo, esto lo compensó el Otro misterio, del cual no puedo hablar aquí.
El final todavía me tiene confusa, me gustó, pero quizá esperaba leer otra cosa. Quizá es que desde siempre quise ver una trama aún más loca de lo que fue. Aún así, no le resta puntos a la lectura.
Me agradó mucho este libro. Malcolm y Claire Kershaw me parecieron personajes muy realistas, en los que no hubiese creído una historia de convivencia así como pareja de no haber visto con mis propios ojos situaciones similares en el ambiente que me rodea.
Quiénes quieran encontrar recomendaciones de autores y libros famosos de thriller en este libro hay referencias de sobra, incluso, al final te colocan una lista de los libros de los que hizo mención el autor en esta novela.

As I mentioned at the beginning, something I really liked about this book was the main character and how he introduced me to the story. At a leisurely pace (but not boring at all), letting me in on details needed to piece the puzzle together (without going overboard) and ending each chapter in a way that I wanted to start the next one.
The beginning was simple, so I don't understand why I felt so comfortable since I started reading, maybe because of this very simplicity, or because one of the places where the story takes place is a bookstore.
I must admit, after I was hooked, and when Malcolm tells us more about himself, I thought: another character with a cliché trauma? (Since he claims not to be able to read those kind of thrillers anymore, maybe because of a past situation).
I decided to confirm it for myself and in return I discovered that I really liked those chapters where he tells us about his past with Claire, his wife who died in a traffic accident. This is another character that seems very realistic to me, despite being unconventional.
Regarding the murder mystery, and as is typical of these novels, you start suspecting left and right. 😆 Everyone seems suspicious to you! Suddenly anyone could be the killer, even law enforcement officers. Crazy, of course.
I suppose it is because of the way Malcolm tells us the story, as we cannot be from the perspective of others, only what he sees and knows, what he chooses to tell us and what he chooses to hide from us.
This story has twists and turns that you don't expect, that leave you somewhat confused, surprised and head over heels. 🤯 Something that I really, really liked is that at the end of the reading I didn't feel cheated like I do with other readings, and this is something I am very grateful for.
The loose ends and the things that are a little "incomprehensible" or that seem to be superfluous are clarified and have their reason for being. I was worried that I would be left without understanding certain attitudes of our main character, but that was not the case. In fact, I really liked that this novel focused on the psychological side as well.
I admit that for a moment I was expecting another twist in this story concerning the serial killer, something crazy that would leave me super surprised, but it wasn't quite like that. However, this was made up for by the Other mystery, which I can't talk about here.
The ending still has me confused, I liked it, but maybe I was expecting to read something else. Maybe it's just that I've always wanted to see an even crazier plot than it was. Still, it doesn't detract from the read.
I really enjoyed this book. Malcolm and Claire Kershaw struck me as very realistic characters, in whom I would not have believed such a story of living together as a couple had I not seen with my own eyes similar situations in the environment around me.
