La literatura de fantasía es una de las más leídas y gustadas por los lectores a nivel mundial. Autores como J.K. Rowling, J.R.Tolkien, Patrick Rothfuss,George R.R. Martin, entre otros se han encargado de poner en alto el género. En los últimos tiempos sin embargo, un autor se ha erigido como el máximo exponente actual de la alta fantasía, hablo nada más y nada menos que de Brandon Sanderson.
En lo personal, como buen amante de la fantasía hace mucho tiempo que tenía ganas de comenzar a leerlo. Me picaba la curiosidad de ver y escuchar hablar tanto de sus libros y bueno finalmente me decidí a hacerlo. Después de leer dos o tres opiniones de por dónde comenzar me decidí por la trilogía Mistborn (Nacidos de la Bruma) compuesta por tres libros (obvio, como toda trilogía 😅)

- El pozo de la Ascensión
- El héroe de las eras

Si eres un amante de la literatura fantástica y no has leído a Brandon, de verdad te recomiendo muchísimo esta Trilogía, (y bueno, toda su obra en general) cuando se empieza a leerlo no hay vuelta atrás . Sanderson es conocido por su maestría en la construcción de mundos y la creación de sistemas mágicos únicos.
Te cuento un poco sin spoilers de que va Nacidos de la bruma :
Está ambientada en un mundo oscuro y post-apocalíptico, y sigue las aventuras de Vin, una joven huérfana con una habilidad extraordinaria para la "alomancia" (el sistema de magia que existe en este planeta) - es decir, consumir y utilizar metales para obtener poderes sobrenaturales. Junto a Kelsier y su banda de rebeldes, Vin se ve envuelta en una peligrosa y épica lucha por derrocar al despiadado ser que ha gobernado en Luthadel con puño de hierro durante más de mil años, sí 1000 años, leíste bien.
Lo que hace que Mistborn destaque entre otras sagas de fantasía es la riqueza de su mundo y la profundidad de sus personajes. Sanderson construyó una sociedad estratificada y corrupta, donde los nobles oprimen a los skaa (esclavos) y utilizan la alomancia, la magia de los metales, como una herramienta de control. A medida que avanzas en la historia, descubrirás una trama intrincada llena de traiciones, revelaciones impactantes, giros inesperados y momentos de batallas y acción.
De más está decir que uno de los mayores atractivos de esta saga es el complejo sistema de magia de los alománticos, que brinda a los personajes una gama de habilidades únicas y espectaculares. Imagina poder empujar o jalar objetos metálicos, aumentar tu fuerza y agilidad, o incluso leer las emociones de los demás, pues eso es solo lo básico, lo increíble es cuando se combinan distintas de esas habilidades 😉
Una de las cosas que más me gustó de la saga (y que también está presente en otras obras de Sanderson) son los análisis intertexto que te encuentras sobre temas muy profundos, como la libertad, la justicia, las religiones, el poder, el honor, los conflictos éticos y morales, el deber y los valores. En varias ocasiones mientras leía, me ví obligado a detenerme a reflexionar sobre esos temas, planteados a través de los conflictos de distintos personajes.
Dato importante a tener en cuenta, en el universo de Sanderson los mundos no son estáticos, evolucionan como lo ha hecho el nuestro. Por lo que, podrás encontrar más de una historia en un mismo planeta, en diferentes epocas. Por ejemplo, esta trilogía de Nacidos de la bruma, se desarrolla en el planeta Scadrial en una época feudal. Pero si al terminar de leerla, te quedas con ganas de conocer más sobre el planeta y como evoluciona la magia, no te preocupes, ya está escrita una segunda saga, que tiene lugar 300 años después en la misma ciudad, con nuevos personajes y conflictos, en lo que se asemeja a una época de la revolución industrial. Esta saga se conoce como "Wax and Wayne" pero de ella hablaré en otro momento, primero debo terminar de leerla 😉

Martin, among others, have been responsible for elevating the genre. In recent times, however, an author has emerged as the current ultimate exponent of high fantasy, I am talking none other than Brandon Sanderson.
Personally, as a lover of fantasy, I had long wanted to start reading his work. I was curious to see and hear so much about his books, and finally, I decided to do it. After reading two or three opinions on where to start, I chose the Mistborn trilogy composed of three books (obviously, like any trilogy 😅)

If you are a lover of fantasy literature and have not read Brandon, I highly recommend this trilogy (and, well, all of his work in general). Once you start reading, there is no turning back. Sanderson is known for his mastery in world-building and creating unique magical systems.
Let me tell you a bit without spoilers about Mistborn: The Final Empire:
It is set in a dark and post-apocalyptic world, following the adventures of Vin, a young orphan with an extraordinary ability for "Allomancy" (the magic system that exists on this planet) - that is, consuming and using metals to gain supernatural powers. Alongside Kelsier and his band of rebels, Vin becomes entangled in a dangerous and epic struggle to overthrow the ruthless being who has ruled Luthadel with an iron fist for over a thousand years, yes, 1000 years, you read that right.
What sets Mistborn apart from other fantasy sagas is the richness of its world and the depth of its characters. Sanderson constructed a stratified and corrupt society where the nobles oppress the skaa (slaves) and use Allomancy, the magic of metals, as a tool for control. As you progress through the story, you will uncover an intricate plot full of betrayals, shocking revelations, unexpected twists, and moments of battle and action.
Needless to say, one of the main attractions of this saga is the complex system of Allomantic magic, which provides characters with a range of unique and spectacular abilities. Imagine being able to push or pull metal objects, enhance your strength and agility, or even read the emotions of others - that's just the basics; the incredible part is when different abilities are combined 😉
One of the things I liked most about the saga (also present in Sanderson's other works) is the intertextual analyses you encounter on very profound themes like freedom, justice, religions, power, honor, ethical and moral conflicts, duty, and values. Several times while reading, I found myself compelled to pause and reflect on these themes, presented through the conflicts of various characters.
An important point to consider is that in Sanderson's universe, worlds are not static; they evolve as ours has. Thus, you may find more than one story on a single planet, in different epochs. For example, this Mistborn trilogy is set on the planet Scadrial in a feudal era. But if, after finishing reading it, you want to learn more about the planet and how magic evolves, don't worry, a second saga is already written, set 300 years later in the same city with new characters and conflicts, resembling an industrial revolution era. This saga is known as "Wax and Wayne," but I will talk about it another time; first, I must finish reading it 😉
