Greetings, this week I will share about another book that I read and that seemed quite strange to me, almost like something bizarre, but I think the RAE changed the meaning of that word.
This is a short story but it is not a common reading, I dare say that even the intentions of the main character are what almost the majority of the population carries within themselves, waiting for an opportunity to pull out their claws, as something inevitable in life. society.
The country of the Blind by H.G. Wells. I suggest that if you are thinking of reading this book then do not read more from here because I know myself and I am not able to keep things precise without spoiling anything, hehe.
Saludos, esta semana compartiré a cerca de otro libro que leí y que me pareció bastante extraño, casi como algo bizarro, pero creo que la RAE le cambió el significa a esa palabra.
Esto es un cuento corto pero no es una lectura común, me atrevo a decir que hasta las intenciones del personaje principal son la que casi la mayoría de la población lleva dentro de si mismo esperando una oportunidad para sacar las garras, como algo inevitable en la sociedad.
El país de los ciegos por H.G. Wells. Te sugiero que si tienes pensando en leer este libro entonces no leas más de aquí porque yo me conozco a mi misma y no soy capaz de mantener las cosas precisas sin spoilear nada, jeje.
The beginning of this story surprised me because it begins with a description of the Andes mountain range and ends its description placing us in a valley of the Equatorial Andes. It all starts with an explosion of a volcano that leaves a community isolated, in this community all the people at first had vision but suddenly it started with the adults and some children, some people began to go blind and no one knew what it was due to, since at that time they did not know what diseases were, the population gradually got used to it and at a certain point everyone began to know every corner of the valley where they lived, certainly this was as a method of learning and defense against such a situation, eventually there were a few who could see and then the rest began to be born completely blind, so time and generations passed. It had been many generations since the last old people that saw had died, and this new generation did not really know what seeing was, that word did not exist for them, the entire outside world for them had disappeared and they did not even know that their ancestors were ever capable of seeing, it was as if there was no memory of what ever existed and this new reality was very well established.
Me sorprendió el inicio de este cuento porque empieza con una descripción de la cordillera de los Andes y termina su descripción situandonos en algún valle de los Andes Ecuatoriales. Todo empieza por una explosión de un volcán que deja a una comunidad aislada, en esta comunidad todas las personas al principio poseían visión pero de pronto empezó con los adultos y algunos niños, algunas personas se empezaban a quedar ciegos y nadie sabía a qué se debía eso, puesto que en esos tiempos no sabían que eran las enfermedades, la población poco a poco se fue acostumbrando y en cierto punto todos empezaron a conocer cada rincón del valle donde vivían, ciertamente esto fue como método de aprendizaje y defensa ante tal situación, eventualmente quedaron unos pocos que veían y luego el resto empezó a nacer completamente ciegos, así pasó el tiempo y las generaciones. Ya hacía muchas generaciones que los últimos viejos que veían se habían muerto que está nueva generación realmente no sabía que era ver, esa palabra no existía para ellos, todo el mundo exterior para ellos había desaparecido y ni siquiera sabían que alguna vez sus antepasados eran capaces de ver, era como si no hubiera memoria alguna de qué alguna vez eso existió y esta nueva realidad estaba muy bien establecida.

One day a mountaineer appeared, well, he didn't really appear out of nowhere. He was exploring a hillside with other companions when he suddenly fell and when he opened his eyes he found himself in another reality. This is our main character Nuñez, because from here everything revolves around him and his encounter with this community.
Nuñez is taken to this community because the people who found him knew that he was injured. Nuñez thought this valley was something very precious that his eyes had ever seen and in the book he describes it with such beauty and talks about the perfect state of everything, the peace and harmony that is felt.
Un día apareció un montañero, bueno, realmente no apareció de la nada. Estaba explorando con otros compañeros una ladera cuando de pronto se cayó y al abrir sus ojos se encontraba ya en otra realidad. Este es nuestro personaje principal Nuñez, porque apartir de aquí todo gira en torno a él y en su encuentro con esta comunidad.
Nuñez es llevado a esta comunidad porque las personas que lo encontraron sabían que estaba herido. A Nuñez este valle le pareció algo muy preciosos que sus ojos hayan visto alguna vez y en el libro lo describe con tal belleza y habla del perfecto estado de todo, la paz y la armonía que se siente.
Nuñez stayed in this valley for a while, at first he did not know that people were blind, later he realized the reality, and he tried to explain to the blind that he could see, that he could use his eyes, but everyone laughed of him thinking he was sick or pulling a lot of pranks. And on many occasions he tried to show that he could see by doing things like trying to avoid someone or grab an object to surprise someone, but he would be the one surprised since all the blind had their other senses very well developed than the slightest sound and smell. they could detect, it was almost as if they could see.
Nuñez permaneció un tiempo en este valle, al principio no sabía que las personas eran ciegas después fue que se dió cuenta de la realidad, y él trato de explicarles a los ciegos que él podía ver, que él podía usar los ojos pero todos se rieron de él pensando que estaba enfermo o estaba haciendo muchas bromas. Y en muchas ocasiones trató de demostrar que él podía ver haciendo cosas como tratando de esquivar a alguien o agarrar un objeto para sorprender a alguien pero el sorprendido sería él ya que todos los ciego tenían sus otros sentidos muy bien desarrollados que el mínimo sonido y olor podían detectar, era casi como si ellos pudieran ver.

At one point in the story, a desire awakens in Nuñez, like a spark of liveliness and he thinks that his vision makes him take advantage of the community and in his thoughts is wanting to dominate this community, to be its new leader, but of course he doesn't was counting on something that we ourselves as readers realize in the story, and that is that this is the world of the blind, they have already adapted to their own rules and ways of living, they really considered Nuñez a different being and clumsy by his vision.
This desire to dominate this blind community would not be easy, Nuñez really must adapt or survive.
En un punto de la historia se despierta un deseo en Nuñez, como una chispa viveza y piensa que su visión lo hace estar en ventaja de la comunidad y en sus pensamientos está el querer dominar esta comunidad, ser su nuevo líder, pero claro él no estaba contando con algo que nosotros mismos como lectores nos damos cuenta en la historia, y es que este es el mundo de los ciegos, ellos ya se han adaptado a sus propias reglas y formas de vivir, a Nuñez realmente lo consideraban un ser diferente y torpe por su visión.
Este deseo por dominar esta comunidad de ciegos no sería nada fácil, realmente Nuñez debe adaptarse o sobrevivir.

This story really has many teachings and points out many things. One of them is that within the blind community, the one who ended up becoming blind was Nuñez. And I say this because everyone in the community already had their rules, everything was established, unlike Nuñez, a person who did not have any abilities like theirs and ended up being clumsy. Despite the fact that Nuñez repeated a saying to himself "In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king" because that was a desperate attempt to convince himself that he could colonize the blind, but really the saying that works for him is "There is no worse blind than who does not want to see" because he was unable to see his inability and arrogance in trying to impose "his vision" and believe himself a superior being.
I think the reading was quite interesting, I certainly didn't really tell everything that happens in the story, there are more juicy details that it is better to read them for ourselves under our own interest.
Este cuento tiene realmente muchas enseñanzas y señala muchas cosas. Una de ellas es que dentro de la comunidad de ciegos, el que se terminaba convirtiendo en un ciego era Nuñez. Y esto lo digo porque ya todos en la comunidad tenían sus reglas, todo estaba establecido, a diferencia de Nuñez una persona que no tenía ninguna habilidad como la de ellos y terminaba siendo un torpe. A pesar de que Nuñez repetía un refrán para si mismo "En el país de los ciegos, el tuerto es rey" pues ese era desesperado intento de autoconvencerse de que podría colonizar a los ciegos pero realmente el refrán que le va bien es "No hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver" porque fue incapaz de ver su inhabilidad y arrogancia en tratar de imponer "su visión" y creerse un ser superior.
Creo que fue bastante interesante la lectura, ciertamente no conté realmente todo lo que sucede en el cuento, hay más detalles jugosos que es mejor leerlos por nosotros mismos bajo nuestro propio interés.
