Today I come to you with a review of the book "The Hunger Games". In the fictional state of Panem, set in the former North America, the inhabitants of the capital city have been organising the "Hunger Games" for many years. This is an annual tournament in which two representatives from each of the twelve districts are forced to fight to the death in an arena. In the final district, sixteen-year-old Katniss helps her younger sister and heartbroken mother, until she volunteers to take part in the Games.
This book is definitely different from the ones I have read so far. With an amazingly created world, colourful characters and an action-packed, mind-blowing plot, I couldn't tear myself away from reading. I found it a little creepy that people were watching the inhabitants of the districts fighting each other to the death as a form of entertainment. I was particularly taken aback by the description of the games, the arena and the various traps waiting for the tributes. I really liked the main character as she embodies qualities such as independence, resourcefulness, determination, loyalty and intelligence. Of course, we also can't forget the character of the male tribune, Peeta Mellark, who was against violence and aggression from the very beginning. It seems to me that he understood and saw more than the rest of the characters. Also, I think that each character brings something unique to the story.
I read the book long after its phenomenon began and I wish I had done so sooner! It is labeled as a young adult book, but will definitely delight readers of all ages!

Dzisiaj przychodzę do Was z recenzją książki "Igrzyska Śmierci". W fikcyjnym państwie Panem, powstałym na terenach dawnej Ameryki Północnej, mieszkańcy stolicy od wielu lat organizują "Głodowe Igrzyska". To coroczny turniej, w którym dwóch przedstawicieli każdego z dwunastu dystryktów jest zmuszona walczyć na arenie na śmierć i życie. W ostatnim dystrykcie szesnastoletnia Katniss pomaga swojej młodszej siostrze i załamanej matce, do momentu aż zgłasza się do udziału igrzyskach.
Ta książka zdecydowanie różni się od tych, które dotychczas czytałam. Zdumiewająco wykreowany świat, barwni bohaterowie i pełna akcji, zadziwiająca fabuła - to cechy, które sprawiły, że nie mogłam oderwać się od lektury. Nieco przerażający był fakt, że ludzie w ramach rozrywki oglądają walczących ze sobą na śmierć i życie mieszkańców dystryktów. Szczególnie zdziwił mnie opis igrzysk, areny i różnych pułapek czekających na trybutów. Bardzo przypadła mi do gustu postać głównej bohaterki, ponieważ uosabia cechy takie jak niezależność, zaradność, determinacja, lojalność i inteligencja. Oczywiście nie można zapomnieć też o postaci męskiego trybuta - Peety Mellarka, który od początku był przeciwko przemocy i agresji. Wydaje mi się, że rozumiał i widział więcej, niż reszta bohaterów. Poza tym, myślę, że każda z postaci wnosi coś wyjątkowego do tej historii.
Książkę przeczytałam długo po tym, jak rozpoczął się jej fenomen i żałuję, że nie zrobiłam tego wcześniej! Jest oznaczona jako książka dla młodzieży, ale zdecydowanie zachwyci czytelników w każdym wieku!
