"Reminders of Him" is definitely a book to which the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" fits. I was expecting a light story for a winter's evening and got a heartbreaking yet hopeful tale, but this surprise turned out to be a positive one.
Kenna Rowan is released from prison after five years. The young woman hopes to find her daughter and rebuild their bond. Unfortunately, everyone in the child's life is determined to make this difficult for Kenna. The only person the woman makes contact with when she returns to town is the owner of a local bar - Ledger Ward. The two build a bond, even though they are surrounded by outside pressure. The more their relationship develops, the greater the risk becomes that Kenna's plan will go awry. She must find a way to right the wrongs of the past so that she can build a good future for herself and her loved ones.
Colleen Hoover has created an extremely original and story, full of colourful characters and logical but not always expected twists and turns. This book is at times very difficult and moving, including a detailed car accident scene. It is a mixture of many different emotions: stubbornness and determination on Kenna's part, fear on the part of her daughter's carers, and care and forgiveness on Ledger's part.
I love how the main character was portrayed. Kenna is an imperfect but good and selfless person. She proves that people make bad decisions, but that doesn't mean they are bad people.
I have never read such a good book that is both hearbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I hope it helps people see that there are two sides to every story and that people shouldn't judge others because of their past.

"Reminders of Him" to zdecydowanie książka, do której pasuje powiedzenie "nie oceniaj książki po okładce". Oczekiwałam lekkiej historii na zimowy wieczór, a dostałam łamiącą serce i jednocześnie pełną nadziei opowieść, ale to zaskoczenie okazało się pozytywne.
Kenna Rowan wychodzi z więzienia po pięciu latach. Młoda kobieta ma nadzieję na odnalezienie córki i odbudowanie ich więzi. Niestety wszyscy w życiu dziecka są zdeterminowani, aby to Kennie utrudnić. Jedyną osobą, z którą kobieta nawiązuje kontakt po powrocie do miasta, jest właściciel lokalnego baru - Ledger Ward. Obaj budują więź, choć są otoczeni presją z zewnątrz. Im bardziej ich relacja się rozwija, tym większe staje się ryzyko, że plan Kenny pójdzie na marne. Musi ona odnaleźć sposób na naprawienie błędów z przeszłości, by móc zbudować dobrą przyszłość dla siebie i jej bliskich.
Colleen Hoover stworzyła niezwykle oryginalną i historię, pełną barwnych bohaterów i logicznych, ale nie zawsze spodziewanych zwrotów akcji. Ta książka jest momentami bardzo trudna i poruszająca, między innymi podczas szczegółowej sceny wypadku samochodowego. To mieszanka wielu różnych emocji: uporu i determinacji ze strony Kenny, strachu ze strony opiekunów jej córki, oraz troski i przebaczenia ze strony Ledgera.
Uwielbiam to, jak została przedstawiona postać głównej bohaterki. Kenna to niedoskonała, ale dobra i bezinteresowna osoba. Udowadnia, że ludzie podejmują złe decyzje, ale to nie znaczy, że są złymi ludźmi.
Nigdy nie przeczytałam tak dobrej książki, która jednocześnie rozdziera serce i podnosi na duchu. Mam nadzieję, że pomoże ona ludziom zobaczyć, że każda historia ma dwie strony i nie należy osądzać kogoś na podstawie jego przeszłości.
