Hello friends,

Today I want to share with you a little sketch I did this morning. It’s a sketch of a seagull. Following steps in this sketch you can pretty much draw any bird.

Materials

Pencil
Paper
Eraser

Process

  • When you draw a bird, if you look carefully, you can see that its body looks like an oval, or even an egg. So you need to draw an oval. The same is for the head.

  • For the tail and the beak we need to draw shapes that slightly look like triangles. The beak is a little bit curved.

  • I’d say the major part of the bird is done here, so I began to draw some details, like feathers and a bit of shading.

  • Finally, I added legs, and shaded the darker parts of the bird. When you do shading, make sure to compare the values of grey. You need to show the light, and the shade. The shade in some parts is darker than in others. It takes a bit of practice to learn seeing it and showing on the paper. More you draw, better you get at it.
