entry reflections contest 10 titled evening at bondestrand

All along the coast in norway there are many tiny harbors, some natural some more man-made. these photos are taken about half an hour after sunset at one natural cove about 6 km west from where i live in stavern on march 4th. the name of this cove is bondestrand, which in english means farmers beach. now as a beach it isn't much to write home about but on a wind-still evening before even the earliest summer tourists arrive the place is most idyllic.

while the beach was once a local farmers land , they sold the plots closest to the sea for the building of summer cottages and added a few primitive docks for small boats in the summer

now the docks themselves are what a carpenter like myself would call ugly but that "quality" fades as the evening light casts a spell on me, the beholder

it's not a purely joyful scene, standing totally inundated with the light, the sky, the sea, the solitude, the cold, my legs tired from the long afternoon trek in the rugged rocky terrain. the tingles of pleasure are not totally free of a torment that the moment is passing. though i attempt to capture it with my camera, it resists possession.

ah, well. maybe i'm just hungry. i could do with a nice warm dinner. i wonder if my wife is home from work.
