there is an island nearby called kuøya- the cow island- which is an island only during high tide but connected to the mainland otherwise. i had a great walk in the sunshine along the rocky coast and ventured out on the island. in particular i became fascinated with some of the reflective crystals i found embedded in the rock. i believe the crystals are a type of iron ore called magnetite, but i am not a geology buff. (feel free to correct me if i am wrong).
they are black and opaque but when the sun is shining and the angle is correct they shimmer with a brilliant silvery metallic reflection
slight changes of position give different appearance and brilliance
the crystals are generally isometric, meaning they are basically cubic in shape. in the above photos some of the difference in appearance is due to my creative editing but in these next four i have merely moved the camera just slightly to capture the natural differences in the reflections. the first is most brilliant
and here with only a minimal reflection
in this final photo one crystal is reflecting the sun brilliantly but just under to the left another smaller crystal appears black and opaque. had i positioned the camera differently it would have given the opposite effect
