Today I'm sharing with you some pics of The Leander Corvette replica located in the Parque del Este in Caracas. I took the pics a few months ago during a morning stroll at the park with my son and a friend.
That day we enjoyed a wonderful morning walking through the park. And seeing the corvette Leander brought me back some memories of my childhood. At that time, in its place was a replica of one of the caravels with which Christopher Columbus discovered America.
I remember that I loved to climb on it. And get an idea of under what conditions the first explorers traveled to American lands. The replica was from the Santa Maria. The three ships with which Columbus first arrived in America were La Pinta, La Niña, and La Santa María. The latter being the smallest of the three vessels.
Years of neglect caused the replica of the Santa Maria at the park to end up being abandoned remains. And was replaced by the Corvette Leander in 2011.
The Leander was the corvette used by Francisco de Miranda on his first expedition to Venezuela in 1806. Francisco de Miranda was the precursor of the independence of Venezuela. His role in history is important not only in Venezuela but in the world. He fought in Africa, Europe, and America. He participated in the Independence of the United States. In the fight for the freedom of Latin America. And in the French Revolution. Therefore his name is one of those engraved on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
The Leander wasn't open for visits when we were there. I don't know if they will open it on weekends since we were there on a weekday. Although, from the outside, the structure looks quite deteriorated and urgently needs a renovation.

Hola, Hivers y Reflection Hunters!
Hoy comparto con ustedes algunas fotos de la réplica de la Corbeta Leander ubicada en el Parque del Este en Caracas. Tomé las fotos hace unos meses durante un paseo matutino por el parque con mi hijo y una amiga.
Ese día disfrutamos de una maravillosa mañana paseando por el parque. Y ver la corbeta Leander me trajo algunos recuerdos de mi infancia. En ese momento, en su lugar se encontraba una réplica de una de las carabelas con las que Cristóbal Colón descubrió América.
Recuerdo que me encantaba subir a ella. Y hacerme una idea de en qué condiciones viajaron los primeros exploradores a tierras americanas. La réplica era de la Santa María. Las tres carabelas con las que Colón llegó por primera vez a América fueron La Pinta, La Niña y La Santa María. Esta última era la más pequeña de los tres buques.
Años de abandono hicieron que la réplica de la Santa María del parque terminara siendo restos abandonados. Y fue reemplazada por la de la Corbeta Leander en 2011.
El Leander fue la corbeta que utilizó Francisco de Miranda en su primera expedición a Venezuela en 1806. Francisco de Miranda fue el precursor de la independencia de Venezuela. Su papel en la historia es importante no solo en Venezuela sino en el mundo. Luchó en África, Europa y América. Participó en la Independencia de Estados Unidos y en la lucha por la libertad de América Latina. Participó tambien en la Revolución Francesa y por eso su nombre es uno de los grabados en el Arco de Triunfo de París.
El Leander no estaba abierto para visitas cuando estuvimos allí. No sé si lo abrirán los fines de semana ya que estuvimos allí en un día laborable. Desde el exterior, la estructura parece bastante deteriorada y necesita urgentemente una renovación.
