A Shopee Haul Desk Renovation

Finally building a dream workspace!

10 months ago, I was also documenting my experience building a proper workspace. In that post, I lay out my tips and tricks on how to build a good one. I was adding a portable laptop stand to my tiny desk and it was adding more touch to my desk. While it was not close to my dream workspace, these days I got the chance to build my actual dream workspace that matches my aesthetic and favorite color. I have to say that working with a bigger space is definitely a lot more exciting and easier.

Ever since I moved to my shack, I got the chance to replace my desk and also some of the things that I left behind at my place in the shoebox room. One thing that I replaced was certainly the desk that was only fit for one laptop and a few smaller items. I initially wanted to bring that back home but it was too much of a hassle. So, I ended up just giving it away and only brought the chair with me which was also another hassle. Long story short, I moved into my shack with only the chair and prior to this, I was working from a tiny table that could really only fit the laptop and nothing else.

I love a huge table where I can write, doodle, draw or even put my other gadgets on it. So, my requirement to get a table was certainly getting something bigger than my previous one. At first, I was trying to find the table online, preferably a gaming table. However, I found that some of the reviews are a bit odd and some of them have to be assembled and I know, it’s not gonna be fast and I might need some tools. At the same time, they are quite pricey and I couldn’t really afford getting something above $100 especially after all the moving and adjusting to this new place. So, after browsing for about a month, I decided to just get this table, which was 120x80cm. I certainly didn’t expect it would be this huge and I certainly was excited. I mean, at last, I could have a bigger table to work from and even take pictures of things that I normally use for content on hive.

I got this table for only $23 with additional moving that was $5. So, in total this was $28. The table is pretty heavy and it was a lot bigger than the other one which was around $17 that looks similar to my older table. So, I was quite okay with paying $23 given it was a lot bigger and potentially lasting me for another 3 years with good care.

How my dream desk changes

My dream working space changes throughout the year and now with the shack I am living in that has this mediterranean style with huge windows, I opt for something cheerful and cute. So, it’s why I am not trying to decorate it with dark colors like gray or black, I am opting with colors like mint to eventually match the wall color that I plan on doing around July. Since these days I love mint, olive and pastel green almost everything I have should at the very least matched the color. That’s the vibe that I am going to create with my room, a combination of mint, green pastel and also black with hints of white or beige.

Do cheaper desk last?

From my previous experience, they last pretty okay and honestly, the scratches around are pretty minimal because I covered it with a mouse friendly desk mat so that it prevents too much damage on the surface. I am also doing the same with this table, as you can see, I got this mint colored mouse mat from Shopee. I tried getting some of the biggest ones that covered almost the middle of the surface where I mostly spent time. I am okay with the other surfaces that aren’t covered since they’ll be mostly for my miscellaneous items.

Deli Shopee Haul to add extra cuteness

For the life of me, I never really thought I’d make this dream a reality but here we are! I finally got the desk that I dreamt about. I used to watch this study vlogs and vlogger on youtube where they have this awesome cute desk. My space certainly wasn’t allowing me to do that but now, I have the space to do so and it’s a lot pleasant to work from. In fact, these days I would rather be home than going to a cafe.

The thing that I added into my table is this mint colored calculator from Deli. I use a calculator a lot not only to study but also to try to calculate profits and losses haha. I purposely picked the color to match my desk mat and my overall color of things that I have. Then, another one that I got is this 8 spaced storage where I can put my pens and colored highlighters. I got them for a set of each, the pen and the highlighters. Some notepads to write a to-do because sometimes my short term memory needs a helper. I also got a cute tiny mint cutter and the rest are my stuff that I already have.

Life after Scent diffuser

Honestly, I thought scent diffuser is such a waste but after buying sprays and they don’t really last long, now I know how scent diffuser is a lot cheaper. I got this fall scent that's just how I love it. I got it from Miniso and they were sort of on sale. I got the seasonal one and since fall is my favorite color and when I smelled the tester, I just loved how soft and fragrant it was. So, I got that one compared to the other season that is available. Even from outside the room, we can still smell it.

Will I change the layout and the aesthetic in the future?

I can only say for the next one to 2 years, I wouldn’t. I love how it looks and how each color complements everything. The only thing that I will be adding is some touches like installing venetian blinds or a better curtain color that are thicker and more in style. Since I am often lost in time and space, adding a table clock would be my next in line to complete the whole look of the table and this desk. But for now, I have to say I am fairly satisfied and it’s already 70% of the way to go and the only thing I need is just repainting.

I am fairly satisfied with the desk placement as it is getting enough sun as well as the chair is also facing all the doors and I can see all the entrances since this room has two doors. One is to the balcony and the other is the main door. There are also windows on my right side that I can open at any time to add more air into my room.

Unfortunately, the room still comes with two pieces of old furniture that needed to be placed in the other room. So, that's my next homework!

What’s your desk look like?
