The colonial style, without a doubt, is one of the architectural styles that keeps me in love with the wonderful world of construction, perhaps it is because of its history, for the time in which it was developed, but I love to know colonial style sites. Today I want to introduce you to the Galerías de Antaño Shopping Mall, a beautiful place that takes you back to that era, as its name says.
This small shopping center is located in the city of Merida, Venezuela, very close to Bolivar Square, here you will find an atelier, haute couture stores, imported clothing, sales of antique collectibles and two cafes with restaurant. It is an ideal place to spend a quiet time in its beautiful facilities.
El estilo colonial, sin lugar a duda, es uno de los estilos arquitectónicos que me mantiene enamorada del maravilloso mundo de la construcción, tal vez, sea por su historia, por la época en que se desarrolló, pero me fascina conocer sitios del estilo colonial. Hoy quiero presentarte al Centro comercial galerías de Antaño, un hermoso lugar que te lleva a esa época, como muy bien su nombre lo dice.
Este pequeño centro comercial está situado en la ciudad de Mérida, Venezuela, muy cerca de la plaza Bolívar, aquí encontrarás, un atelier, tiendas de alta costura, ropa importada, ventas de objetos antiguos coleccionables y dos cafeterías con restaurante. Es un sitio ideal para pasar un rato tranquilo, en sus bellas instalaciones.
Upon entering we are welcomed by a central courtyard, with a small garden where there is a concrete fountain and around it some concrete benches for the visitor's comfort, I love that the floor covering of this area is with stones, all this together with beautiful lanterns of light, palm plants, grass and in the background the aisles with Creole tile roofs and beautiful columns make it a very picturesque place. This day I was with my son, it was a cloudy day, as you can see in the pictures, I wanted to go back and take them when the weather was more favorable, but I could not resist the urge to write about this mall.
Al entrar nos da la bienvenida un patio central, con un pequeño jardín donde se encuentra una fuente de concreto y alrededor de ella algunos bancos de concreto para comodidad del visitante, me encanta que el revestimiento del piso de esta zona sea con piedras, todo esto junto a bellos faroles de luz, las plantas de palma, el césped y al fondo los pasillos con techos en teja criolla y hermosas columnas hacen que sea un sitio muy pintoresco. Este día estaba con mi hijo, era un día nublado, como puede verse en las fotos, quería volver y tomarlas cuando el clima fuese más favorable, pero no aguante las ganas de escribir acerca de este centro comercial.
One of the most common characteristics of the colonial style, is that we usually find this type of patios in the center of the buildings, having an outdoor space, I find it amazing, this way you get natural light and fresh air, it is also visually harmonious.
Una de las características más comunes del estilo colonial, es que solemos encontrar este tipo de patios en el centro de las edificaciones, tener un espacio al aire libre, me resulta increíble, de esta forma se obtiene luz natural y aire fresco, además es armónico visualmente.
Around the courtyard the terracotta color is present in every corridor, since the floor is covered with tiles of this color and the walls with clay slats, a material widely used in the city. The perimeter columns are circular with beautiful decorations at their ends and with a rustic coating up to the middle of them. We can also observe the drainage system of the fluvial waters that comes from the roofs, which consists of a metallic channel that transports the water to the patio. Everything in perfect balance, where we can find in the simple something beautiful.
Alrededor del patio el color terracota se hace presente en cada pasillo, ya que el piso está revestido con baldosas de este color y las paredes con tablillas de arcilla, un material bastante usado en la ciudad. Las columnas perimetrales son circulares con bonitas decoraciones en sus extremos y con un revestimiento rústico hasta la mitad de ellas. También podemos observar el sistema de drenaje de las aguas fluviales que proviene de los techos, el cual consiste por un canal metálico que transporta el agua hasta el patio. Todo en perfecto equilibrio, donde podemos encontrar en lo sencillo algo hermoso.
At the back we found a cafeteria, it is quite crowded, some tables are in the aisles and others in the garden, in an area called the geraniums, what I did not like, is that it needs more lighting. Especially for the thick foggy afternoons like this one. On the wall, there is a metallic bell in the middle of the very nice lamps, I wonder if this bell had some use in the past or if it is just a decorative element.
Al fondo encontramos una cafetería, es bastante concurrida, algunas mesas están en los pasillos y otras en el jardín, en una área denominada los geranios, lo que no me gusto, es que hace falta más iluminación. En especial, para las tardes de neblina espesa como esta. En la pared, se encuentra una campana metálica en medio de las lámparas muy bonitas, me pregunto, si esta campana, tendría alguna utilidad en el pasado o solo es un elemento decorativo.
At the back we find another hallway, which leads to another area called the ferns, it catches my attention and I like that each area was named after an ornamental plant. Here we find, what I think, would be the rooms, with beautiful balconies, I am not a producer, but it seems to me the perfect setting for some romantic scenes from movies of the time.
En la parte trasera encontramos otro pasillo, que nos lleva a otra zona llamada los helechos, me llama la atención y me gusta que cada área, llevé el nombre de alguna planta ornamental. Aquí encontramos, lo que pienso, serían las habitaciones, con bellos balcones, no soy productor, pero me parece el escenario perfecto para algunas escenas románticas de películas de la época.
This hallway leads me to the tea room, a place where you can have an afternoon tea or why not a coffee, it is small, but quite nice and it is right at the secondary entrance of the mall.
Este pasillo me lleva al saloncito del te, un lugar donde puedes tomar un te por la tarde o porque no un café, es pequeño, pero bastante agradable y está justo en la entrada secundaria del centro comercial.
The façade of the shopping center is beautiful and striking, it also complements the surroundings, the windows are the protagonists and of course they have the typical design of this type of structure, elongated and with a trellis that protrudes. The main entrance is framed with decorative neoclassical columns. The photos of the facade were taken a few days before, in my first attempt to see the mall, but it was closed.
La fachada del centro comercial es hermosa y llama la atención, además se complementa con el entorno, las ventanas son las protagonistas y por supuesto que poseen el diseño típico de este tipo de estructuras, alargadas y con un enrejado que sobresale. La entrada principal está enmarcada con columnas decorativas neoclásicas. Las fotos de la fachada las tomé unos días antes, en mi primer intento de conocer el centro comercial, pero estaba cerrado.
I really liked this mall, I enjoyed it with my partner in crime, my little son, if you are in Merida, I recommend you to visit it, it has some interesting stores and the atmosphere is very nice to have a good time.
Me gusto mucho este centro comercial, disfrute junto a mi compañero de aventuras, mi pequeño hijo, si estás de paseo por Mérida, te recomiendo visitarlo, tiene algunas tiendas interesantes y además el ambiente es muy agradable para pasar un buen rato.
