Hello to all Hive friends and greetings to the whole Architecture community! Today I want to share with you a little about the cathedral of constitution, is a cathedral that is commonly known as such for being located in the neighborhood that bears the same name although in reality its real name is church of the immaculate heart of Mary.
It is a catholic church and was built under the neo-gothic style, starting its works for the year 1913 and inaugurated in the year 1913, although its final construction was not until 7 years after its inauguration, for the year 1930 and would be completed.
The architect Luis Echavarri Romulo Ayerzca was in charge of the church.
Hola a todos amigos de Hive y saludos a toda la comunidad de Arquitectura! Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un poco sobre la catedral de constitución, es una catedral que comúnmente se conoce así por estar ubicada en el barrio que lleva este mismo nombre aunque en realidad su nombre real es iglesia del inmaculado corazón de María.
Es una iglesia de culto católico y fue construida bajo el estilo neogótico, empezando sus obras para el año 1913 e inaugurada en el año 1913, aunque su construcción final no fue hasta 7 años después de su inauguración, para el año 1930 ya estaría finalizada.
La iglesia estuvo a cargo del arquitecto Luis Echavarri Romulo Ayerzca.
Before continuing I should say that I was surprised by the fact that in the square in front of the cathedral I found a statue, which you can see in the photos above and it is a tribute to General Jose Antonio Paez, a historical figure who fought in the Venezuelan territory and has a tribute in this country, I took the picture from the back because the main objective was to focus on the cathedral.
Now back to the main subject of interest... As is common knowledge, most of the churches or cathedrals that have a neo-gothic style generally consist of two towers and in this case we have that both parallel towers have a height of 53 meters that were completed in 1926 and that the main altar was only finished in 1941, the year in which the work ceased and was completed.
Antes de continuar continuar debí decir que me sorprendió en hecho de que en la plaza que se encuentra frente a esta catedral me encuentro con una estatua, la cual pueden observar en las fotos de arriba y se trata de un homenaje al general José Antonio Paez, personaje histórico que luchó en el territorio Venezolano y tiene un homenaje en este país, la fotografía la tomé desde la parte de atrás ya que el principal objetivo fue enfocarme en la catedral.
Ahora volvemos con el tema de mayor interés... Como es de conocimiento público, la mayoría de las iglesias o catedrales que tienen un estilo neogótico generalmente están constituidas por dos torres y para este caso tenemos que ambas torres paralelas tienen una altura de 53 metros que fueron terminadas en 1926 y que el altar mayor recién fue terminado para el año 1941, año en el que cesó la obra y se dió por terminada.
Something very interesting about this work is that there is very little information about the details of its construction materials, it is only known that it has reinforced concrete and beyond its architecture they focus on its history, mentioning that it was built in a town or in an area that at that time suffered a lot of deterioration due to the construction of the 9 de Julio Avenue.
The church is located between the limits of this avenue and the subway station called Constitución, then the fact of the vibrations caused by the construction of this avenue which is the widest in Latin America and the construction of the subway station made it deteriorate affecting part of its concrete and the irons of this church.
Algo muy interesante de esta obra es que hay muy poca información sobre los detalles de sus materiales de construcción solo se conoce que posee hormigón armado y más allá de su arquitectura se enfocan en su historia, mencionando que fue construida en una localidad o en una zona que para aquella época sufrió muchísimos deterioros por la construcción de la avenida 9 de Julio.
La iglesia se encuentra entre los límites de esta avenida y la estación del subterráneo llamada Constitución, entonces el hecho de las vibraciones ocasionadas por la construcción de esta avenida la cual es la más ancha de Latinoamérica y la construcción de la estación del subterráneo hicieron que se deteriore afectando parte de su hormigón y los hierros de esta iglesia.
The work was in fact for some time without crosses and due to the deterioration of its structure for the aforementioned reasons, the church had to ask for economic aid from the city government since this work is not a national historical monument and because of this it does not receive any type of donations or financial aid from the state.
By the year 2010 approximately the restorations began to be made and today the church is completely standing according to its construction and details. Unfortunately I could not access the interior because it was closed but it would have been very interesting to admire its interior, the main altar and all the other details that the church houses.
So... This is another small architectural part of the city and another small contribution from me to this beautiful community. Greetings to all and I appreciate very much the support you can give me with your comments ☺️
La obra estuvo un tiempo de hecho sin tener cruces y debido al deterioro de su estructura por lo ya antes mencionado la iglesia tuvo que pedir ayudas económicas al gobierno de la ciudad ya que ésta obra no es un monumento histórico nacional y debido a esto no recibe ningún tipo de donaciones o ayudas financieras del estado.
Para el año 2010 aproximadamente se empezaron a hacer las restauraciones y hoy en día la iglesia se encuentra completamente en pie de acuerdo a su edificación y detalles. Lamentablemente no pude acceder al interior porque estaba cerrada pero hubiese sido muy interesante admirar su interior, el altar mayor y todos los demás detalles que alberga la iglesia.
Así que... Ésta es otra pequeña parte arquitectónica de la ciudad y otro pequeño aporte de mi parte a esta hermosa comunidad. Saludos a todos y aprecio mucho el apoyo que me puedan brindar con sus comentarios ☺️
