Head of Communications | ARAGON

The Internet has opened the doors for universal, cross-border, and non-violent collaborative effort to fight for our freedom. However, the Internet has also opened the doors for global surveillance and manipulation. We believe humankind should use technology as a liberating tool to unleash all the goodwill and creativity of our species, rather than as a tool to enslave and take advantage of one another. Thus, Aragon is a fight for freedom. Aragon empowers freedom by creating liberating tools that leverage decentralized technologies. — The Aragon Manifesto

Aragon Association is a small, remote-only team of people that span a broad range of backgrounds, interests, and geography. We're dropouts and Ph.D.s, craft beer and coffee lovers, living across the Americas and Europe, who are designing and building tools to secure and govern decentralized organizations.

Aragon Association has overseen the production of the leading smart contract framework to build DAOs, with toolkits for developers to seamlessly integrate their apps with DAO functionality, and a decentralized dispute resolution system.

Description

We're looking to hire a Head of Communications to join our team and be the voice of Aragon, leading our efforts to develop communications strategies that are open, participatory, and community-centric, and fit within the open source ethos of the organization. In this role you will be responsible for managing and directing Aragon’s internal and external communications. This position reports directly to the CMO.

  • Establish new relationships and nurture existing ones with Web3 key-opinion leaders, academia, media and influencers.
  • Oversee the planning of relevant speaking opportunities (conferences, online events, meetups, and other in-person events).
  • Develop a crisis communications practice and playbook.

Who You Are

  • You are autonomous, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and feel at peace in a dynamic and innovative start-up environment.
  • You master the art of structured communication and adapt style, voice, and tone accordingly.
  • You can break down complex ideas about and explain these in easy-to-understand concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You are proactive and highly organized in managing multiple projects with tight deadlines, are detail-oriented and have outstanding project management skills.
  • You are passionate about decentralized governance technology and have a strong interest in blockchain-powered technologies.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years in public relations or communications-related field (agency experience a plus)

  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and storytelling skills to express messages concisely and compellingly.

  • Excellent external stakeholder management and interpersonal skills and experience successfully managing agencies, clients and/or direct reports.

  • A demonstrated ability to understand a complex technical subject matter and to simplify and explain it to a broader audience.

  • Bonus: Prior experience leading a successful communication strategy and enforcing deadlines using an announcement, social media and/or editorial calendar.

  • Bonus: A genuine interest in blockchain and web3 technologies, or prior experience in decentralized governance solutions, LegalTech, or FinTech. Ideologically aligned with open governance and decentralization.
