Charity in the simplest word, means showing kindness to others. Charity is Showing kindness, empathy, favour and providing comfort and relief to people in dare need or just in need of anything available or as you can purposely give out freely to others. Most times, the work of charity expected from us may not be giving someone a mansion, cars or the precious silver and gold the whole world is chessing on daily basis. Charity work is anything available from you to others.I am against the act of helping people who are far away while leaving those in the immediate environment behind. It does not sit well with my idea of someone being charitable.
I see it as a way of seeking validation because there is absolutely no need to ignore the people in your immediate environment who need the same kind of help and then stretch that help to people far away. Although it could be that the people far away reached out first, which is very understandable, but in a situation where someone is very fond of helping certain faraway people while neglecting the immediate environment, that is very bad.
Most times, people do this because of what they stand to gain in return for offering such help. Once they see that no profit is coming from the people in their environment, they take the offer to faraway people who have something to give in return. This is mostly the case with online philanthropists. Most of the people who do this do it to build a large online audience that will help them in whatever they are pursuing.One of those reasons can be entitlement mentality. Many people feel they are entitled to someone else's resources, especially if they have shown benevolence a few times.
They think to themselves that "if this person can give me this thing now, it means that they can always give me". Therefore, they will keep coming and keep asking even for things they can work and get for themselves. And when they don't get what they predetermined in their hearts, that's when you start hearing all sorts of stories about the wealthy person. This is a wrong mentality but unfortunately very rampant. So because of this, the giver rather feigns stinginess in their immediate environment and go out there to do charity towards strangers—strangers that won't expect them to give them all the time.
