Welcome to another review of India's most famous Whisky Royal Stag.
This is one of the most selling whiskies in India. Seagrams Royal stag was launched in 1995 and boozers once in their lifetime had it. When launched initially it became an instant hit in the market and beating all competitors in the near price range. A product's success depends on two factors, one is the quality and the other is the marketing strategy.
The company Seagrams is owned by Pernod Ricard who is also known for world-famous brands like Absolut Vodka, Chevas Regal. Despite being from the same family Royal stag is the best selling product of them all. It is the best whisky in the price range category not only in India but other countries as well.
As the Ingredients say Grains and Scotch Malts comprises this drink, one thing that they don't tell is Molasses. Molasses is a leftover product of the sugarcane to sugar process that forms a colourless spirit. It is then conditioned like whisky and blended with malts in order to maintain the same taste.
An alcohol level of 42.8 ABV packs a power punch of alcohol smell. A lot of molasses fragrance and wood nothing much. As this is a budget whisky it has a lot of mettle to send you to the seventh heaven. Above-average consumption of this drink will leave you with a hangover.
Mouthfeel
This is hard to sip as the alcohol fragrance is high. Not much of different grains but has an evident taste of molasses but grains are suppressed. Avery neutral whisky like taste with high alcohol burns when rolled around the tongue with a nice finish. The smooth finish gives a hint of the effort of fermenting. The aftertaste is sour-ish and demands another after one.
ProTip
Mix it with Cola or any other sweet drink to kill the alcoholic smell. Soda or carbonated water also lightens up the heavy alcohol punch and gives a smooth drinkable experience.
