Troy Edwards, wow what a cool player to learn about.
Troy Edwards is basically one of the greatest receivers in College Football history, and I am not sure if I ever heard of him. Maybe I have, I think from my old NCAA Football games or something. But now I really know who he is.
From 1996-1998, playing for Louisiana Tech University, Edwards won several awards and put up record breaking numbers. In 1998 he was only four yards shy of reaching 2,000 yards receiving.
His career was full of great games, but nothing compared to the game he had against Nebraska in 1998 where he caught 21 passes and gained 405 yards receiving.
Here's a clip of him going off that day! This guy just glided across the field, he just seemed so much faster than everyone else. I was too young to see this game, but watching this clip actually reminded me of playing NCAA Football '06 on PS2 back in the day. Good times.
Troy's great college career would lead to him being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft.
Unfortunately, Troy's 1999 rookie season as shown on this card, would wind up being his best statistical season of his NFL career.
While his career may have been a bit disappointing for a first round draft pick, Troy had a decent average career, where I'm sure he made solid money. Six out of his seven seasons as a pro he caught at least 18 passes and had at least 157 yards receiving. Troy also provided value as a return man on special teams.
In his seven year career Troy played for the Steelers, Rams, Jaguars, and Lions in that order. Over those years as a pro, Troy compiled the following stats:
- 2,404 Receiving Yards
- 203 Receptions
- 12 Total Touchdowns (11 receiving, 1 rushing)
- 9.0 Yards per Punt Return on 38 career returns
- 21.1 Yards per Kick Return on 74 career returns
