Cards From My Personal Collection: Jay Payton 2003 Topps Baseball Card

Talk about a WICKED action shot!! That's just sweet!

Jay Payton had himself a nice career despite being a bit of a journeyman. He never went to an All-Star game or win any awards as a pro but he was a good player to have around. I remember him from his days of being on the Oakland A's!

Payton was a nice hitter, and really quite athletic in general as you can tell by this picture. I'm a little surprised he didn't steal more bases in his career.

Payton's career lasted from 1998-2010. He played for the Mets, Rockies, Orioles, A's, Padres and Red Sox throughout his career.

He'd retire with 1,157 hits and 119 home runs. He also had 522 RBIs and maintained a .279 batting average. His career high in homers is 28 which came in 2003 with the Rockies.

Payton never won the World Series or anything, but he did play in the World Series in 2000, so hey at least he won a pennant! Plus, he homered off of one of the greatest EVER in Mariano Rivera on the biggest stage baseball has to offer!
