Description from Strava:

Sunday morning, last weekend before the long run event. It is the last opportunity to put in some quality longer running and hiking.

Since we stayed at home the decision of where to go was easy. To Rašica.

I took the right ridge all the way up to the village of Dobeno. Then continued to the top of Rašica. From the tower, I took a long way around to the road and climbed up to Veliki vrh. Back down and on the road then right to Gameljne, through the village, back into the woods and into the Magpie's Valley. All that was left was to run straight home. Almost 16 kilometres with 600 meters of climb in two hours. I wasn'7 in a hurry. The most important aspect of today's effort was time on foot. OK, I'll add some family and doggy hiking in the afternoon too.

As usual, I took several photos on this beautiful late summer morning. It had a bit of everything. Fog, sunshine, light rain, asphalt, roads, trails, climbs, downhills, and flat sections. Lovely.

My first stop on the right ridge is always a monument to world war 2 hero Cene Štupar.

A view from the Rašica tower towards Šmarna Gora with the valley below covered with fog.

This path from Rašica to Mengeška koča is not travelled much. Yet, it is so beautiful.

Believe it or not, the Rašica massif is a Karst world. There are many sinkholes and even caves here. Some of the sinkholes are magical.

Veliki vrh, the Big peak, with its pyramid of stones. Next time I need to bring a stone with me to add it to the pile.

From here on, the path is quite rugged and not often trodden. fallen trees, rocks, and slippery downhills, it's the best terrain for a real trail runner.

While running down a view opened to the west.

Finally, the sun came out after the morning fog and the light rain. Pure magic.

Magpie's Valley, a mile to home.

A great run and hike it was.

better and better
