Tiktok Case: USA vs China

image (10).jpg

Previously there was a platform called musical.ly, which consisted of a space where users made "lip sync" of songs that were in fashion. In November 2017 it was bought by Tiktok, which belongs to the Chinese corporation Byte Dance, making its launch official in 2018.

Let's contextualize a bit:

Quote start:

The giant global providers of services and products on the internet; Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon (GAFA) are blocked and replaced by three national giants that dominate the industry: Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent (BAT).
  • Baidu is the Chinese Google.
  • Alibaba dominates online commerce.
  • Tencent is the center of a social network similar to Facebook.

Let's take a look at the Chinese Internet.

In China there are local providers for all the services that the western internet offers.

Weibo is the Chinese Twitter.

Baidu is the map service (nothing from Google maps).

WeChat is the WhatsApp version.

WeChat has 1K million active users per month and is considered a Super App without which anyone would feel isolated.

With a series of secondary programs, WeChat allows mobile electronic payments to be made, including making a medical appointment.

All this has led to users, refugees in the concept of "Social Relations", to give less importance to the disclosure of personal information. What has facilitated the Government to monitor every step (literally) of the majority of its citizens.

Quote ends.

All this technological deployment is financed directly and indirectly by the Chinese government, and seeks to keep its citizens isolated from the rest of the world. At the same time, they offer them the comforts and entertainment that people from other countries can enjoy, but with impenetrable platforms that impede trade from outside to inside China. All under the policy of "national security".

The great "cloners of the world"

In China we can find the copy of products manufactured by the best American and European brands.
These products are manufactured by large Chinese corporations, with Chinese components and Chinese labor.

On the other hand, China is the largest exporter of electronic parts and raw materials for western corporations.

We are currently experiencing a global economic eclipse due to the paralysis of Chinese exports as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. This highlighted the dependence of world markets on Chinese products.

In addition to this, when a foreign corporation or manufacturer wishes to sell its products to the 1.5K million Chinese inhabitants, it must sign an economic agreement with the nation where they are forced to sell 50% of their shares in order to operate within the territory.

Tiktok = USA vs China

All this conflictive situation has been kept within an opinion matrix that involves the issue of the National Security of the United States, espionage and things like that.

But it's all a big sham, it's just about money.

Within the policies implemented by President Trump towards negotiations with the Asian Giant, the US government established similar conditions in terms of operating rights within the American territory, where Tiktok is being required to sell 50% of its shares to an American company.

Otherwise, as of September 20, 2020 Tiktok will not be able to be downloaded by American users. In addition, a deadline was established until November 12, 2020, this agreement has not been made, Tiktok will stop operating within the United States.

Quite an imperialist measure, isn't it?

Look at these figures:

  • TikTok has 800 million monthly active users around the world.
  • TikTok has crossed over 2 billion downloads between Google's Play Store and Apple's App Store in recent years.
  • TikTok was the most downloaded app worldwide in March 2020 with over 115.2 million installs.
    Source

In my opinion, China, through its large corporations, will not abide by this measure that the US intends to impose. Simply because losing the 80 million American users will not weaken the Tiktok trade. There are still the 1.5K million inhabitants of China and more than 400 million users in the rest of the world.
