Why You Should Wear a Facemask

Still getting familiar with the pandemic, a lot of us are starting to get familiar with using a face mask as a means of preventing the spread of the virus from one person to another through air particles. Depending on the country you are, it is either mandatory or it is neccessary. In a few part of Asia, such as Singapore, South Korea, Japan and in some european countries such as Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and so on, it is mandatory to put on a face mask but in some other countries like the US,it is neccessary but not mandatory as in other countries. President Donald Trump calls it a voluntary act and not a mandatory act.

Why do you where a face mask?

I have heard people saying that wearing a facemask prevent germs from an already sick person as the germs stay inside the mask, but for me, I do not believe this as it is really uncertain to say that germs will remain in the mask and not escape.

The symptoms for Covid-19 do not start to manifest until after 6 days on an average or up to 14 days for display of symptoms but even when the symptoms come late before appearing, it is always very contagious from the first day and about 25% of people who contract this virus do not show symptom. So the fact that some people feel healthy doesn't mean they do not have it, it could be asymptomatic. One major reason to use a mask is to help prevent easy transfer from people who have the virus but with no symptomatic appearance.

Never see nosemask as a way of preventing you from catching the virus but rather a general preventive measure along with social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing. It should be seen as a means of reducing the odds of contracting the virus. Wearing a facemask should not be a means to protect only yourself but also to protect others. It should be seen as a means to protect ourselves and the people around us. Don't forget that it helps slowdown the spread of Covid-19 and we all need to be safe.

Do you always wear your facemask?
