The pageantry had just finished and Jay was packing to leave the hotel where she and other contestants were lodged, she was not quite happy to go back to that ghetto, and as she was deep in thought of going back to that sad and lonely life, she got a call from Kems, Remember Kems and what she did to Jay? Well, let’s know why she called
“Hi baby Girl, how have you been? Kems said
“I am Fine, and you” Jay answered as other pleasantries were exchanged between both of them
Kems went on to say “I want to apologize for sending you out of the house even when I knew you had no where else to go, I was going through a lot and I was selfish at that moment. I hate that I pushed you to live in a ghetto and I want you to please come back and live with me”
As much as Jay was skeptical and unsure about Kems Genuity, she really didn’t want to go back to the ghetto, so she accepted the offer, went to the ghetto to pack her stuff, and the next day she was back at Kems’. It was not a bed of Rose living with Kems as they were a lot to deal with, but Jay just wanted to keep looking for a better job so she can afford to live at her own place.

As Jay was not Lucky to get a job, she got some little money from Kems and started a thrift business (selling Okrika as we know it in Nigeria). The business started off well, but after restocking twice, business went bad, people were not buying again, Jay tried and tried to keep that business running but it just kept failing. It was a sad experience for her because she had to go back to being broke and jobless.

One day she got a call from someone she met at the pageant, the person told her about a job opening for a store manager and how she had already talked to the owner of the shop about Jay, she went on to say that Jay was going to be paid 50,000 Naira (about $100) which as we know, is big money to Jay, I mean that is the biggest pay she’ll be getting for a job in her life.

“What? You mean I’ll be paid 50k?” Jay Screamed at the other end of the Phone in excitement
“Yes! The only issue here is that the shop is on the island (the island is a part of Lagos that Is known or perceived to be for the Rich, and it is 426km from where Jay Lived with Kems at that time)

This was a big challenge, Jay had nowhere to stay on the island, she had not even been there, and it was not possible to go to work from where she currently lived, she had to live close to work, in fact, it was a criterion for the job. The Owner was not ready to provide accommodation for Jay either, so Poor Jay was stuck and Sad.
Jay in her desperation to secure that job, Went On to her Whatsapp and dropped a notice asking Who lived on the island or who knew someone that lived there that could accommodate her for a while. Jay had little or No acquaintance in Lagos who lived on the Island, so she wondered why she thought it was wise to put up that notice on her Whatsapp, she was about to go delete it when someone replied her, she was a girl Jay met on her way to an audition one time and had even forgotten about her.
She Replied Saying “HI baby girl, I live with my boyfriend on the Island and you can come stay with us for as long as you want if you will be comfortable sleeping at the living room Floor, as we don’t have 2 beds”

She was talking about Beds to a girl who was literally used to sleeping on the floor since she arrived the city of Lagos, hahahaha. Jay was not concerned about that, at that instant, she was just so excited that she had a solution to her challenge.

What Jay did not know, was that, that Journey was going to Change her life. Was it for good or for bad?
