Hive introduction; This is the story of a Chemist that fell in love with the art of photography.

I'm a 27-year-old creative soul with a passion for capturing life's beautiful moments through the lens of my camera. Although I have a background in chemistry, I've found my true calling in the world of photography. I believe that a picture is worth a thousand words and I strive to create images that tell a story and evoke emotions.

Here's how photography came into the picture.

After receiving my National Diploma in 2015, I made the decision to learn a skill before applying for a Higher National Diploma because finding employment in the nation after graduation was not assured. I discovered one of my brother’s friends who is a photographer and was always taking pictures of people in my dad’s church. I noticed that anytime he took photos of people and showed them, they were always genuinely happy and they even requested more. I got touched by this and said to myself "this is what you will do". I will learn photography. I told my brother(who is also a photographer by the way) about my new interest and he tried to persuade me to do something else. After much pressure, he succumbed to my wish. A couple of days later, I started my training in Oshogbo, Nigeria.

I trained for a while before returning to school. I had fallen so deeply in love with photography that I almost didn't want to return to school. It was a difficult decision, but I had to finish school for the sake of my parents. I finished my school program and began my NYSC program. For non-Nigerians, NYSC is a program that allows youths to serve their country while also driving unity among the country's various ethnic groups through community service.

Check out photos of me during NYSC;

As a chemist, I was assigned to a water resource department, where I worked in the laboratory performing various analyses. I was tired within a few months as it wasn't my space. The only thing I could think about was photography. I was fascinated by the power of light and how it can be used to create stunning compositions since my first training. I was eager to challenge myself and learn new techniques to improve my newfound skill. With determination in my heart and resilience, I found a studio where I started my career as a photographer. I was shuffling between the studio and my NYSC duty office. It was hard, but I did it. One year later and despite many travails including the COVID-19 lockdown, I officially started my career as a freelance photographer.

I have downplayed my degree in chemistry in this post however, my background in chemistry played a role in shaping who I am today. Studying chemistry taught me the importance of attention to detail, precision, and the power of observation. These skills translated well into my photography and have helped me to create visually striking images that stand out. In many ways, chemistry and photography have a lot in common. Just as a chemist carefully mixes ingredients to create a reaction, a photographer carefully composes an image to evoke a specific feeling or emotion. Both require patience, discipline, and an eye for detail.

Furthermore, I found out that my knowledge of chemistry gave me a unique perspective on the world around me. I understand the science behind light and color, and how they can be used to create stunning images. Whether I'm shooting a sunrise over the mountains or capturing the vibrant colors of a bustling street, I'm always seeking to find new ways to bring my chemistry-inspired perspective to my photography.
