The origin of the "We Live In A Society" meme and its curious nihilistic implication

If you have been living under a rock for the last millennium, you probably don't know that the "Snyder Cut" of the blockbuster Justice League is coming up soon this year. It will be 4 parts 1 hour Series, with essentially reworks and reshoots of the original Snyder Cut.

The fans of the DC universe, have been losing their minds since the announcement, and yesterday came a new trailer that fully represents the drastic changes that can be made in post production, shaping the way we consume movies for years to come; it ends with a sentence that has been resonating in the head of a lot of viewers, but more on that in a minute.

For those that aren't familiar with the production fiasco of the Justice League franchise, Zack Snyder was the first director of the movie only to be replaced by Josh Whedon who at the time was still a popular choice to direct a movie, with a clear agenda in mind.

Snyder left the project after the death of his daughter in 2017 admitting that he had “zero energy” for finishing it, the studios did not have the decency to wait for him to grief his loss and grin lit Josh Whedon for revamping his work, and by doing so changed completely the tone of the franchise.

The goal was to make a fun movie that could compete with Marvel's Avenger franchise from the MCU, discarding Zack Snyder's gritty world and flawed characters.

The Warner Bros colourful release was somewhat very different from the director's vision, and got received by critics with some "OK" reviews, and a whole lot of comics fans disappointed.

The discussion was ongoing throughout 2020 with hashtags like #ReleaseTheSnyderCut that culminated with a recent announcement that yes, the fans did it, they will get their Zack Snyder's cut.

So what does it has to do with the title of this post?

The "We Live in a Society" meme has been now a part of our pop culture for few decades, and started at a time when the word "meme" was not even a thing. It has taken a life of its own and involves The Joker, Seinfield, Incels and the website 9gag.

It has turned into a strange rally cry of a "good guy comes last" generation throughout the years, and in some ways is a by-product of this society they have been creating, unapologetically meta, woke and self ridiculed.

It's clear that a part of the next generation has been marginalized through a gruelling process of division and smoking mirrors, consistently widening the gap through obvious orchestrated chaos, the schism drove all the "socials outcasts" of this world further down their paths of destruction and self-isolation.

Some might even call it predictive programming as it's hard to pinpoint how and when it all started, but it is now sure that our paradigm has shifted for the worse, and that the Mouse Utopia has failed .

It isn't the first time that movies/series are being used as a tool to shape the masses, and there is probably an important discussion to have, we have numbed our senses to most cries for help in our reality, as we expect the weaker individuals to disappear through the pressure of social Darwinism.

The movie studio felt compelled to use the sentence "We Live in A Society" in the reshot (said by Jared Leto as the Joker), because they understand very well their audience, they have created them.

The last Joker movie is the epitome of this movement, a nihilistic approach on life (almost Dadaist), that has been having an ever-growing fanbase in the recent years, mirroring our reality.

The thing is, when reality and movies are mirroring each others, it's just another way of blurring the lines. If I show you few images of riots and the recent movie Joker, would you be able to tell me what's real?

Some people might think that the idea of movies shaping opinions and nations is absurd like in this article, but truth is the entertainment industry has been weaponized since its genesis.

It was created with a very specific purpose, it's all very well documented that the CIA had ties with Walt Disney and admittedly influenced public opinion.
We are becoming what we consume, and the result might be something that are creating by sheer will power, a self fulfilling prophecy where we don't even know if the chicken or the egg were there first.

Jaredo Letto's Joker

But I digress.

So... Do we even still "Live In A Society"? How often do you still see or talk to someone else that is a part of this organism? A lot of people on the blockchain have not ben part of this society for a very long time and were driven away, they are also very less subject to manipulation and mass hypnosis, so what are we doing we all the jokers of this world now?

The last year has completely deconstructed what it means to live with one another, and we might not understand yet the implications of such radical changes in our way of lives.

Have we destroyed our society to a point of no return? Was it a part of a grander scheme to reduce population growth by self destructing its very core and accelerating the so called "natural selection", making the rich more wealthier than ever, and driving our civilization to the wall?

if we all become the jokers of this world, are we just gonna let it burn to the ground or adapt?
