Debus is Art, not a Show of Violence |

Debus_04@ayijufridar.jpg

The art of debus accompanied by the beat of the rapai (traditional drumming instrument). This art performance does require the mentality strength of the audience because it triggers adrenaline, full of violent scenes. However, debus is not a show of violence. He is an art show, showing immunity to sharp weapons accompanied by music wasps.

From several references, debus is said to originate from Banten, Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. This art can be played by men or women, although more men. One of the debus players I know very closely is Yun Casalona (now deceased, who is also a poet).

During the socialization of the Helsinki MoU peace agreement in Hiraq Square, Lhokseumawe, I recorded Bang Yun's action, his nickname. Debus poet whose real name is Yun Anizas often appears at various events. He creatively modified Aceh's debus through rock music accompaniment, so that the poet Fikar W Eda called him a pioneer of debus rock.

Apart from one sheet of Yun Casalona's photo, the other photos include the debus attraction at Jenderal Sudirman Square, Lhokseumawe, which was performed by several debus artists. Their performance really wowed the audience.

Enjoy the art of Debus, keep the peace for today, tomorrow and forever. []
