Cut-Paper Artwork “Noble Eightfold Path”
I created this polar bear cut-paper artwork called “Noble Eightfold Path.” The Noble Eightfold Path is a buddhist concept. I drew this design last year and didn’t have a chance to create the cut-paper art. Finally, I finished it.
When I decide the design of a cut-paper art, the title comes to me first or the design comes to me first. It’s case by case. For this artwork, the design and the title came to me at different times. When the title and design match, it feels right to me. When I was reading the concept of Buddhism and Animism, I thought the title suits this polar bear. I have never seen the northern lights in my life but I feel very familiar with it. I also feel very familiar with polar bears and reindeer.
切り絵「八正道」
白熊の切り絵を作りました。タイトルは「八正道」です。八正道は仏教の概念です。デザインは去年したものですが、切り絵をするタイミングがなかったので今になりました。
切り絵のデザインを考える時は、デザインが先にくることもありますし、タイトルが先にくる場合もあります。その時々違います。この白熊のデザインに関しては、デザインとタイトルが別々のタイミングでやってきました。タイトルとデザインがマッチしたとき、腑に落ちます。仏教やアニミズムについて読んでいた時、白熊に合うタイトルだと思いました。オーロラをこの目でで見たことがありませんが、懐かしい気がします。白熊やトナカイもとても懐かしく感じます。
