Amelia Mary Earhart (Atchison, Kansas, 24 de julio de 1897–Océano Pacífico, 2 de julio de 1937)1​ fue una aviadora estadounidense, célebre por sus marcas de vuelo y por intentar el primer viaje aéreo alrededor del mundo sobre la línea ecuatorial. Además de haber sido una de las pioneras en aviación de los Estados Unidos, Earhart fue la primera mujer piloto en cruzar sola el océano Atlántico. Todo empezó al estallar la Primera Guerra Mundial, cuando Amelia se trasladó junto a su hermana a Toronto para trabajar como voluntaria al cuidado de los pilotos heridos y enfermos. Fue allí donde entró en contacto con el mundo de la aviación y empezó a familiarizarse con ‘aquellos extraños aparatos’.

Su pasión por volar afloró definitivamente en California, en 1929, cuando durante un espectáculo aéreo en Long Beach se atrevió a volar en un biplano. Fue su bautismo en el aire. Desde ese momento, empezó a recibir clases de aviación de otra mujer piloto, Neta Snook, y consigue su licencia como piloto, algo que sólo habían conseguido quince mujeres hasta la fecha. En 1937, desapareció sin dejar rastro mientras sobrevolaba el océano Pacífico central.

In addition to being one of America's aviation pioneers, Earhart was the first woman pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. It all began at the outbreak of World War I, when Amelia moved with her sister to Toronto to work as a volunteer caring for wounded and sick pilots. It was there that she came into contact with the world of aviation and began to familiarize herself with 'those strange machines'.
Her passion for flying finally surfaced in California, in 1929, when, during an air show in Long Beach, she dared to fly in a biplane. It was his baptism in the air. From that moment on, she began to receive aviation lessons from another woman pilot, Neta Snook, and obtained her pilot's license, something that only fifteen women had achieved to date. In 1937, she disappeared without a trace while flying over the central Pacific Ocean.
