Watercolor Painting and Sketch of a Hibiscus Pedunculatus

Hello amazing people! This time around I’ve been photographing the flora around me and it’s been really interesting. I also got to discover new flowers as well as what they are used for. Here is a plant I never thought would be named hibiscus but it is!

On the day I saw the plant, the flowers were blooming in all their glory, but in the following week I noticed that the flower was closed up. I wondered why. From what I’ve learnt online the flowers only last a day. The plant itself flowers repeatedly which is nice to know.

Do enjoy the sketch, photograph and painting of this lovely plant!

I made use of my rotring pencil, cretacolor pencil and this time an A4 sinoart sketchbook!

I had trouble differentiating the light and dark areas of the plant, I was on the verge of giving up. The thought of getting accustomed to drawing from my personal references kept me going.

For the painting I made use of my Windsor & Newton watercolor set. My Van Gogh set has started developing molds sadly. I rinsed it off and from what I got online, leaving it to dry out or using alcohol on the set helps to keep it mold free : )
