Hellos guys, this is a freehand portrait study I made using charcoal pencils as a medium, I'll take you through my processes. It'l was a project I enjoyed, you should try it out, too.

Process 1: Sketching

Drawing = Construction hence, I usually my subjects as shapes rather than how they actually are, I thereby use lines and shapes to represent each segments until I can add the details. Although I'm the progress shot up there I had shaded the forehead, yet you can still see some elements of lines. It's much easier to begin like that.

After my sketching process, I added a soft first layer using graphite powder and then used an eraser to highlight the lights. The purpose is to create a background in which I can smoothly apply my charcoal as I can't use charcoal directly.

Shading:
Usually, I do grind my charcoal pencils into powdery form. I make use of a brush and to apply it on to the paper.
I begin working from the top, taking each part of the face bit by bit. A gently apply the powder untill I achieve my desired tone.

I made use of a 21x25 inches cardboard paper
I also you used a white pastel pencil for some highlights in the hair and some places in the eyes.

I look forward to hearing your questions. Thank you for viewing.
