Ellen Sadler; The girl who slept for 9 years

Ellen Sadler, also know as the Sleeping girl of Turville, was the 10th child out of 12 childern. She was born on 15 May 1859 in Turville. Turville is a small village located between Oxford and Buckinghamshire.

On the 29th March 1871, when Ellen was 11 years old, she retired to bed with the rest of the family. But by morning , all attempts to wake her up proved futile. Ellen was pushed, yet she did not wake up.

At first, everyone thought that she had passed away, but her pulse was still reading. The local medics could not explain her situation because they had not seen such case before. Experts from all over the country came to look at Ellen but the condition beat their understaing.

In no time, new about Ellen spread both far and wide. People began to visit her home and they started donating money towards this cause. Some of the visitors requested for permission to try their own methods of waking her up. Everyone came with different sorts of alarms, inventions and techniques. But all methods fail.

If you wondering how the girl was still alive, after months of not eating or drinking, her mother was feeding her.

In 1980, her mother Anne died of heart attack. According to the doctor, it was caused by the constant thing that Ellen might never wake up. But 5 months after her mother died, Ellen woke up! A girl who went to sleep at the age of 11 and woke up being 21.

At waking up, the whole town was surprised. Her siblings told her that her both parents had died. She felt like it was a dream. Even though she was 21 when she woke up, mentally she was still 11.
