Sportsmanship prevented a war~fictional prompt #159

The people of earth were busy with their work when all of a sudden unidentified flying objects started hovering on the Earth. People were frightened to see such subjects which were not identical to any human-made jet or airplane. These were huge, well-developed, and without any sound. There were hues as no one was able to postulate what was going on. All of the electronic devices stopped working. Traffic signals, mobile signals, and internet service disappeared.

Soon those flying objects started landing one by one. These were 100 in number. People were waiting to see would happen next. The door opened from one of those flying ships and an 8-foot strange creature with four arms came out of it. Its eyes were square without eyelids and it had no nose. He was of green color. He came nearer to people and muttered a few words but no one was able to comprehend that. He looked towards his assistant who brought a gadget for him. He spoke into that gadget and a voice came out in English language from that.

“Hello people of Earth, how are you……we are from outer space. We are here to grasp hold of your planet. Our soldiers are waiting for our signal. One-click from us will make 1000s of such ships carrying millions of well-equipped soldiers land on Earth. But before that, we want to give you an opportunity. We vigilantly watch your cricket game and we have practiced that too. If you beat us we will not commence foray on you. Convey our message to your think tanks”

It was a threat message more than a wish to play cricket. The quorum was called from across the world. They were trying to contrive a suitable stratagem to cope with this situation. Aggression should always be the last option as it produces devastation for both sides. So it was agreed to play a match with them.

An envoy was sent to them and a match was scheduled after two days. Best players from across the world were asked to play the match and a team was made which included

Virat Kohli (from India)
Babar Azam(From Pakistan)
Kane Williamson (from Newzealand) C
ABD (from South Africa)
Maxwell(from Australia)
M Rizwan(from Pakistan) Wk
Akeel Hussain (from WI)
Jimmy Anderson(from England)
Jasprit Bumrah (from India)
Mitchel Stark (Australia)
M Chahal (from India)

On the scheduled day both teams appeared on the ground. Both captains met each other and moved towards the toss. It was a fifty-overs match. Earth 11 won the toss against Space 11 and opted to bat first.

When the game resumed, space 11 seemed to be more agile and expert in cricket than predicted. They played attacking cricket. After each bouncer, they used to bully the batsman. They were making too many illegal deliveries with pace on them to threaten the batsmen. Through balls, words, and actions they tried to intimidate the opposition. When the Earth 11 ended their innings, there was 320 on board to chase.

The second inning started and Jasprit and Mitchel from Earth bowled an excellent spell. In his third over, Mitchell bowled a high-pace bouncer which hit the helmet of the batsman but Kane Williamson immediately went towards the batsman and lifted him and said apologies to him. The batsman was impressed by such a gesture.

The game was nail-biting. In the last over 15 runs were needed by space 11 with two wickets in hand. Jasprit bowled a yorker which hit the batsman in tow. He started running but was interrupted by the bowler. He got run out. But Kane appeared on the spot and denied his appeal for run out saying the batsman was interrupted that’s why his speed was lost. The whole Space 11 was spellbound by such sportsmanship.

The match ended with victory in the hands of Earth 11. All were expecting that it would further heat aliens but to their expectations, the captain of Space 11 spoke very decent words for Earth 11. He said we are very impressed by their morals, sportsmanship, and gallantry game. He thanked Earth 11 for showing such a candid gesture. Finally, he announced of return back to their land by leaving a friendly gesture of their part. Thus the game which started with fear and intimidation ended in a jocular way due to sportsmanship.
