DER ONKEL HAT BONBONS

Together with @stepko, Hans and Matthias we were once again on an abandoned airfield of the Soviet armed forces. It was a feast with you again! I thought I had already experienced just about everything you can experience at night in some lost places. I've been exploring abandoned places with my camera since 1989. But even after so many years, you sometimes experience a few surprises. @stepko and I were working on a light painting when suddenly three young men with torches stood next to us. They told us that they were ghost hunters and that there were ghosts in this building. At first I thought they were taking the piss, but they were obviously very serious. They had bright torches and other strange equipment for ghost hunting with them. Is there a funny Netflix series or something? You don't make up that kind of nonsense on your own.

Gemeinsam mit @stepko, Hans und Matthias waren wir wieder mal auf einem verlassenen Flugplatz der sowjetischen Streitkräfte unterwegs. Es war mir wieder ein Fest mit euch! Ich dachte, ich hätte schon so ziemlich alles erlebt, was man so nachts in irgendwelchen Lost Places erleben kann. Ich erkunde schon seit 1989 verlassene Orte mit meiner Kamera. Aber selbst nach so vielen Jahren erlebt man zuweilen einige Überraschungen. @stepko und ich arbeiteten gerade an einem Lightpainting als plötzlich drei junge Männer mit Taschenlampen neben uns standen. Sie erklärten uns, dass sie Geisterjäger seien und es in diesem Gebäude Geister geben würde. Im ersten Moment dachte ich, dass sie uns verarschen wollen, aber die Jungs meinten das offensichtlich sehr ernst. Sie hatte helle Taschenlampen und weitere merkwürdige Ausrüstung für die Geisterjagd dabei. Gibt es da eine lustige Netflix Serie, oder so etwas? Solch einen Blödsinn denkt man sich doch nicht selbst aus.

And then we met this nice contemporary. He wanted to to lure children with his sweets. He always shouted "Uncle has sweets". He had also put on a funny pig mask. This was not crowned with great success. There just aren't that many children running around at night on the rocked-out Russian airfield.

Und dann trafen wir auf diesen netten Zeitgenossen. Er wollte mit seinen Bonbons Kinder anlocken. Er rief immer "Der Onkel hat Bonbons". Er hatte sich auch extra eine lustige Schweinsmaske aufgesetzt. Von großem Erfolg war das nicht gekrönt. Nachts laufen einfach nicht so viele Kinder auf dem abgerocktem Russenflugplatz rum.

After a while we passed the barred window again. Now the uncle had exchanged the pig for a rabbit. That's better. But still no children came by.

@stepko (DER ONKEL) and I have probably never had so much fun making a picture. The torch almost fell out of my hand several times from laughing. But that's what I think light painting is all about: fun.

I first lit @stepko and the sweets, then lit the scene from the front and in the last step put a green colour filter on the Emisar D4K and lit the room. Looking at the ceiling, it was certainly not the best idea to walk around in that room.

Nach einer Weile kamen wir erneut an dem vergitterten Fenster vorbei. Jetzt hatte der Onkel das Schwein gegen einen Hasen getauscht. Schon besser. Aber es kamen immer noch keine Kinder vorbei.

@stepko (DER ONKEL) und ich hatten wohl noch nie so viel Spaß bei der Umsetzung eines Bildes. Vor Lachen ist mir mehrfach fast die Taschenlampe aus der Hand gefallen. Aber genau darum geht es meiner Meinung nach beim Lightpainting: Spaß.

Ich hatte zuerst @stepko und die Bonbons eingeleuchtet, dann die Szene von vorne beleuchtet und im letzten Schritt ein grünes Farbfilter an die Emisar D4K gesteckt und den Raum beleuchtet. Wenn man sich die Decke anschaut war das sicher nicht die beste Idee in diesem Raum herumzulaufen.

Here you can see the scene without light painting. If my information is correct, this building is the fire station. Why the windows there are barred is not so clear to me, though. Who would break into a fire station? But never mind. It was perfect for our picture.

Hier seht ihr die Szene ohne Lightpainting. Wenn meine Informationen richtig sind, handelt es sich bei diesem Gebäude um die Feuerwache. Warum die Fenster dort vergittert sind ist mir allerdings nicht so klar. Wer bricht denn in eine Feuerwache ein? Aber egal. Für unser Bild war das perfekt geeignet.

Here you can see the whole building. I lit the scene with the Emisar D4K and the Noctigon DM11.

The other boys also took pictures, which they hope to present to you here soon. I'm already looking forward to our next trip together.

Die anderen Jungs haben dann auch noch Bilder gemacht, die sie euch hoffentlich bald hier präsentieren. Ich freu mich schon auf unseren nächsten gemeinsamen Ausflug.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
