My hobbies - The Ink well CreativeNonFiction Prompt #8

Since the different stages of my life: childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age I have liked to use the time of avocation in various activities some of them provided me with money. Another way of using my leisure time was to take my cuatro and sing songs without receiving any monetary incentive in return, I did this for fun and I felt very happy. The hobby that I love and am passionate about is reading books and writing stories and tales.

I remember as a child, after doing my homework at school, I spent my free time in the kitchen with my mother and my sister Aurora. They would cook various Creole snacks typical of our State, such as coconut rice , coconut kisses, majarete and pumpkin pie. By getting involved in the preparation of these snacks I learned how to make them.

On the weekends my sister and I would go to the stadium where they had baseball games, and those days it was a pastime that fascinated us. There we would sell all those snacks that we made and after selling them we would take advantage of watching the baseball game.

When we returned home, my mother would take out the cost of the material she used to prepare those snacks and the rest was profit. She would divide it up; one-third went to cover some household expenses and one-fourth to the two of us. That profit was used to save them in a piggy bank we had. After a semester of the year, we would take out those savings and buy items for our personal hygiene or anything else we needed.

When I was a teenager another way to use my leisure time was to sit outside my house surrounded by friends and neighbors to improvise songs. Or accompanying a friend or family member with my cuatro to sing to them on their birthday and then continue cheering with songs accompanied by a chorus of everyone present, this I did for fun without receiving any monetary incentive.

When the Christmas holidays arrived, my husband, a group of friends and relatives would go from house to home singing aguinaldos. Wherever we went, we were given hallacas with ham bread and in others we were invited to dinner. This activity filled me with joy and happiness until last year. Since then I have not returned to this activity, because my partner went to the afterlife.

As an adult I had less free time as I had other responsibilities, however, I had time to devote some time to reading, which I loved to read and write stories, although I was not very skilled at it. In this way I wrote many short stories.

I am currently in the phase of old age, in this phase I have a lot of time for avocation. I dedicate myself to reading and writing stories in Colmena. Here I receive motivational incentives with the comments I receive from readers about my stories, which motivate me to improve them every day. The Hive for publishing these stories rewards me with motivational and monetary incentives in cryptocurrencies. That motivate and excite me every day to keep writing. I also consider this to be the most productive leisure time I have ever had; because through the reading I do in each book I acquire wisdom.

Since I can remember I have always used the time of avocation passing through the different stages of my life taking advantage of this hobby in activities that I learned.
