"Daniel, promise me that you will never disappoint me when you get to the city," Maya said while holding hands with Daniel under a big tree that was at the end of the town where lovers play and gist.
"I promise never to disappoint you my love" Daniel promised and they talked for some minutes before they left the place.
Maya came from a poor family and was raised by a single mother because her father left her mother for another woman all in the name of searching for green pastures and he never comes back.
While Daniel came from a rich family, he had everything he wanted aside from the fact that love was missing in his family. His mother happens to be the rich one and she always use that to bully her husband who is Daniel's father.
Daniel and Maya met at a coaching when they were both preparing for their higher institution and they both fell in love with each other. Maya's mother didn't have money but with the little market she was selling, she took care of Maya and all she lacked was fatherly love.
Daniel got admission into the university that was near the village but his mother didn't want him to school there, she wanted him the school abroad.
Maya got admission into the same university and was okay with it because her mother couldn't afford a bigger tuition fee.
"I got admission into the university close to this village but," Daniel said, while Maya was confused and asked, "But what?"
"My mom wants me to school abroad" Daniel replied in a sad mood.
Maya wasn't happy to hear that but she pretended as if everything was ok with her so she replied with a faint smile. "It's ok, all you just have to do is to promise never to leave me and that you will come back for me".
Daniel's eyes were filled with tears already, "I promise to come back for you my Maya and don't forget to always contact me with your mom's phone".
"Okay" Maya replied
They both hugged before they parted ways and it wasn't long after day, Daniel travelled out of the country.
Two years passed.
"Maya! Maya!! Maya!!!" Her mother called with a loud voice from outside.
"Mom, why are you shouting at the top of your voice?" Maya asked as she sluggishly came outside.
"So you have now have the mind to talk to me as you want?" Her mother asked her and Maya noticed her mother was angry so she quickly apologised, "Am sorry mother but that was too loud".
"Someone is looking for you that was why I was screaming so that you could come out on time" her mother replied and immediately Maya heard someone was looking for her she quickly asked, "Who? A guy or a girl?" Her mind had travelled to Daniel maybe he was the one who was looking for her.
"It was a guy" her mother replied immediately Maya heard that she quickly looked around but she couldn't find anyone so she asked, "Who could that be?
"He said he is your classmate and dropped this for you" her mother replied while she pointed at a textbook beside her.
Maya felt disappointed because she thought it was Daniel that came back. His number has not been available ever since he left the country, she picked up the book without saying anything and went back inside.
Her mother noticed that she wasn't happy so she asked, "Are you expecting someone?" Maya didn't answer the question, she walked in to make a call with her mom's phone but Daniel's number was still not available.
The next day, Maya got to school but wasn't paying attention to all the lectures because her mind was divided since she couldn't reach Daniel ever since he left, on her way back she left her friend's house.
Maya stood at the entrance of the house and called, "Kate come out and here" Immediately Kate heard her voice She quickly ran outside then she said, "My student friend how are you doing today?" Maya answered "Am fine" but Kate noticed that Maya wasn't happy so she asked again, "Is anything the matter? Did someone fight you in school today?"
"Arrrh, emmm the thing is em I... You know what never mind" Maya replied.
Kate smiled and tapped her shoulder, "We've been friends for long so you can trust me, what is the matter?"
"I miss my boyfriend" Maya replied.
"Boyfriend? Who? Do you have a boyfriend?" Kate asked with a confused look, Maya knew Kate would be angry for just knowing about Daniel so she quickly explained herself to Kate.
When Maya was done talking, Kate looked at her and then said, "You have just been ghosted by your so-called boyfriend".
"Ghosted? How? You mean he's not coming back?" Maya asked Kate while she nearly cried, Kate hugged her and said, "He might, but am certain that not for you". Maya couldn't control her tears and Kate was petting her. Some minutes later Maya wiped her tears and went back home.
** Seven years later**
Maya had graduated and left her mother's town in search of a job in city. Luckily for her, she got a job as a manager in a big hotel and she went back to take her mother with her.
Good morning ma, the receptionist guy greeted Maya as she entered her office, "Morning" Maya replied without looking at the guy.
Some minutes later
"What is going on in this hotel? I thought this was supposed to be a standard hotel?" The receptionist kept saying, "We are sorry sir" but the young man didn't stop shouting.
Maya could hear the noise from her office so she came out, "What is the matter?" She asked while facing the receptionist guy named Jude, Jude was about to start explaining what happened when the customer who was shouting asked, "And who is this?".
Maya felt bad immediately when she heard that so she turned to reply to the voice only to see her long-time boyfriend Daniel. Maya looked at Daniel from head to toe then said, "Mr. Man you don't address people you don't know like that".
"Am... I... Sorry, you say? Are you not Maya?" Daniel replied.
"So? What does that have to do with what is happening here?" Maya replied angrily and she was about to leave when a lady came out then said to Daniel, Babe what is going on here?"
"Babe? Daniel, so you now have a babe?" Maya said as she turned back then realized that they were both wearing rings which meant they were married.
Daniel couldn't say a word so he grabbed his wife's hand and they went back into their room, but he didn't reply all that his wife was saying all he could manage to say was "Babe pack your things we need to leave right now".
They both left the hotel and that was how Maya let go of her love for him now that she had confirmed that Daniel had ghosted her.
