Henry Learned Life The Hard Way

Hello Friends,

A wise man once pondered about the lifestyle of our generation. He said "while we were younger, we failed to live our life's like kids, as we wished to grow up faster than usual. But now that we are all grown up, we are wishing to go back to our childhood days." He said "we failed to live neither in yesterday nor in today".

We live like we would never die, but we end up dieing like we never lived. This is the story of Henry Bills, a 28 years old factory worker, who failed to enjoy his youthful and healthier age, because he was saving all his money for a future he only dreamt of.

"Live your life well today, because tommorow is not promised" Henry's mother exclaimed on one of her advise section with her only son. She was not happy with his stingy-save behavior. Henry was not only stingy to people around him, but he was equally stingy on himself, lol.

Henry grew up from what I would call 'a comfortable home,' as his dad's and mum were both government workers. It's just so unfortunate that he wasn't happy with his family background and promised himself to make alot of money for the future.

Everyone was happy with Henry's determination to become very rich and build a better future for his children. But no one saw Henry taking this determination of his to the next level.

Henry earned a monthly salary of around $200 - $300 from his work as a labor operator in the Ambrose Aluminum Factory here in Lagos. At least, he was earning enough to live a comfortable life in this part of the world.

But Henry was overwhelmed with his desire to build a multinational company for himself, where he would lead the affairs of things. He forgot that before you would become a good boss, you should have first been a good follower.

His desires were not bad, but it costed him his sound health, because he barely ate foods, all in the name of saving money for a dream of owning his own company. Things became intensed when his savings got to a $100,000 milestone. At this time he had starved himself for many years, and it has become evident from his body.

Every month, Henry would set out only $15 from his salary for his upkeep and survival. His parents would complain about his act of saving too much for the future, and forgetting to enjoy today.

Infact, to show how stingy Henry was to himself, he would go on to sell the foodstuffs his parents usually bought for him, because they discovered that he wasn't using his money to buy foodstuffs for himself. But he would usually sell the foodstuffs for cheaper rates and add the money to his savings, lol.

Henry forgot that life is a journey of moments, and that moments are what create memories. If we don't live our life's with the consciousness that tommorow might never come, we might miss out on today's blessings.

The repercussion of Henry's starvations and refusal to eat as he should came on a Thursday afternoon while at work. His eyes began to turn him around, and before he could call for help, he had already collapsed and became unconscious.

The whole management and staffs of Ambrose Aluminum factory were in great fear, because Henry's body wasn't moving again. Infact his eye became all white and shinny. Calls were made to his parents and first aid treatments were given to him, after which he was taken to the hospital.

After several hours with the doctors, Henry became conscious and he began to cry on the hospital bed, saying "I don't want to die now, please doctors do your best to save me" This really broke the doctor's heart, as he pitied Henry's current situation.

The doctors told Henry's parents that their son has little or no blood in his body (just about 3% left), and that his blood pressure level is at its lowest (lower than 60/40 mm Hg). His sugar level was also very down, and the doctors also added that some of his organs were not functioning properly.

It was just as if all hell went loose at the same time for Henry and his family members, because the money required for his general treatment was enormous. The doctors insisted that Henry's healing would take longer time than usual, but no assurance that his body would completely become the same as before.

The doctors recommended some foods he should eat everyday, and some other foods he should avoid if he wishes to recover fully. Henry has already spent almost all of his savings to recover his health back to normal, but to no avail.

At this time, Henry's desires had changed, and he is no longer seeking the future of becoming a company owner. All he is concerned about now is his sound health and current happiness.

He wished he could turn back the hands of time and make better decisions, but life just made it that some lessons should be learned by experience. He started viewing life differently, and this time he became aware of the importance of today, and not tommorow or yesterday.

Henry is now gradually recovering from his health disorders. His parents made sure he ate what was recommended of him by the doctors. He started with small foods, and now he is eating bigger foods daily.

The Ambrose Aluminum factory where Henry was working has continued to pay him his monthly salaries, and they are even willing to continue assisting his medical bills till he becomes better.

Henry learned his lesson the hard way, but we are happy he made it out alive. The most important lesson from his story is that regardless of our pursuit in life, we should not overlook or be ungrateful for the things we already have.

We should live every moment like it's our last, and utilize every opportunity to be happy at the moment. It's alright to plan for the brighter future, but we should not focus all our attention and energy to the future. Instead, we should enjoy the journey through to the future.

Thanks for your time here.
