Whispers of Uncertainty -| The Ink Well Fiction Prompt 131 -

It was a Sunday morning in the bustling little town of Salem, and it was buzzing with everyone either getting ready or going to church. Philia and Andrew are brought together by chance, and an unexpected friendship journey begins.

At first Phylia felt they were attracted to each other. No doubt, their interactions were filled with laughter, and intense conversation. Philia felt it was more than friendship, but she expected Andrew to tell her directly.

Weeks turned into months, what Philia expected never happened. She wanted genuine relationship not friendship, but Andrew only wanted sex. Phylia sacrificed her time with frequent meetings at Andrew's house which even made their friendship romantic.

The thought of Andrew asking her out on a date crossed her mind on several occasions, but the moment never came. She wondered why he wouldn't ask her to be his girlfriend, but couldn't ask him directly. She began having sleepless nights, wondering and trying to understand why Andrew was reluctant to take things to the next level, but the investigation only compounded her confusion.

One particular day, as Phylia was talking on the phone with Andrew, she decided to take their conversations to a more serious tone.

"What do you think about marriage? What qualities would you look for in the woman of your dreams?" she asked, carefully evaluating his answer.

She realized that Andrew's answers were not quite the same as hers. What he wanted were greater than what she believed he saw in her With his response, she didn't need anyone to explain or give her any direct answers.

Philia was disappointed, Andrew was the man she wanted. Knowing they share the same Faith, he is intelligent, gentle, independent, hardworking, and open-minded. She was full of doubts, whether to keep hoping things will turn in her favour or to walk away. She knew it would be safer to leave. She made her resolve to stop investing in friendships that were going in directions she didn't want.

She gradually began to withdraw, carefully choosing her own path of silence. She avoided an invitation to Andrew's house because she knew it would end up being having pleasure. She began ghosting his messages, hoping that Andrew would notice the sudden change in her demeanor and ask questions but he never did. Too many excuses to avoid Andrew's invitations whenever they meet in church qand the gleefully hanging ghosted messages were evidence of growing distance between the two.

The pain of this realization of hers settled within her, driving away illusions she had built up. For her, a connection that seemed so promising was just a mirage. Philia has to accept the fact that she and Andrews don't get along.

Heartbroken, she knew she had to put an end to her feeling of uncertainty that gripped her heart. She picked up her phone and wrote to Andrew, expressing her own opinion and explaining that she doesn't want anything that crosses beyond friendship to romance. It was a message that obscured her untold truth, but her hopes and expectations were not met. Andrew on the other hand, respected her decision. Phylia thought they are back on track as friends but only wrong as Andrew after respecting her decision began ghosting her messages with excuses that he's too busy with work.
