The lush green fields stretched as far as the eye could see, the stalks of corn standing tall and dancing to the breeze. The distant hum of insects filling the air. Sound of chicken clucking at a distance as Jamie stood alone on his farm which was located at the outskirts of the town. With him was his loyal companion, his dog Clever by his side.
Despite the warnings of his doctor, Sarah, Jamie's love for the land kept him tethered to his work, even as his health continued to decline.
"Jamie, you seriously need to take it easy," Sarah's voice echoed in his mind as he remembered her warning. Her words are a constant reminder of his fragile condition.
"But Sarah, you know how much this farm means to me," Jamie replied, his voice tinged with stubborn determination. He hates being idle especially on days he should be farming. So he dictated about his declining health, he lied to him that it was okay.
Jamie wiped the sweat from his brow and pushed his wheelbarrow further into the corn fields toiling under the scorching sun, with Clever laying at his feet, panting heavily in the heat, his eyes filled with concern as he watched his master push himself beyond his limits.
Suddenly, a wave of dizziness washed over Jamie, and before he could get his footing he collapsed to the ground, his vision swimming as the world spun around him. Clever let out a series of frantic barks, tugging at Jamie's clothes in a desperate attempt to rouse him from unconsciousness but his owner remained unconscious on the ground. It was then that Clever realised that Jamie was in trouble and he had to take matters into his own paws.
Quickly Clever sprang into action, his instincts kicking into overdrive as he assessed the situation. He had many times before seen his owner's doctor, Sarah, and he knew that she lived in the town just a few miles away. So with a deep breath and a loud determined bark, Clever darted off towards the town, his paws pounding against the earth as he raced against time to fetch help for his beloved master.
The hot sun beating down on him as he raced through the fields, his little legs burning against the hot asphalt yet carrying him as fast as they could. His lungs gasping for air. He pushed himself onwards, knowing that he had to save his owner.
Lucky enough as Clever got to the town, he saw a figure in the distance, just outside the building his owner regularly meets with the doctor- it was Doctor Sarah!
Clever let out a bark of desperation and ran towards her.
"Clever!, what's wrong?" Sarah asked as she recognized him, her heart pounding with fear as she saw the urgency in the dog's eyes. "Why are you alone, where's Jamie?
Clever instead tugged at her feet barking and occasionally running towards the direction he came from. After a series of repeated actions. Sarah understood him. "Oh no, Jamie!" she exclaimed.
With that she quickly ran towards her car as Clever followed and together they zoomed off to Jamie's farm.
Immediately at the farm Sarah got out of the car and with clever leading the way they ran towards the huge body that lay helplessly at the farm.
Sarah rushed to Jamie's side, and her medical expertise kicked into high gear. She worked tirelessly to stabilise him and after a series of medical actions by Sarah, Jamie slowly opened his eyes to the bright, hot sun. He blinked and tried to make sense of his surroundings. He realised he was lying on the ground next to his wheelbarrow.
Sarah helped him to sit up, his head pounding and muscles aching. His mouth was dry, and he could barely remember how he had ended up lying on the ground. The last thing he remembered was working on the farm.
He felt a wet tongue licking his hand, and he looked down to see his loyal dog, Clever, staring up at him and his doctor, Sarah, was holding him from the ground.
"What happened?" he asked.
"Let's get you up and into the house first" Sarah replied instead and with that she helped Jamie stand up and they slowly walked into the house.
While in the house and after making sure all the necessary help has been rendered to Jamie, Sarah as always gave Jamie another lecture about the importance of listening to his doctor's advice for the umpteenth time.
As days passed Jamie gradually regained consciousness, he realised the gravity of his actions and vowed to take better care of himself in the future.
With Sarah's support and Clever's unwavering loyalty, Jamie was grateful for the second chance to life he had been given.
