An Introvert And A Fun Night

The worst mistake you'll make is inviting me to your party. I'm the kind that prefers the comfort and quietness of his home to the rowdy-ness of a party. Yes, I can count how many parties I've attended ever since I became an adult and I'm sure they're not more than 10.

In Fact the parties I've done well at were ones I was forced to. And I'm about to tell you about one of those times.

It was a cool Saturday evening in the city of Uyo, and I was settling in for a quiet night at home. 7 pm the clock read. Ans as a guy that loves the peacefulness of my apartment, coupled with its soft lighting and comfortable bed. I was lucky enough to have power that day, so the ceiling fan was at the highest speed. My blankets covered my body as I gradually settled for a good night's rest. It was like my safe haven from the hectic world outside.

But just as he was about to doze off, my phone rang. I groaned, who would be disturbing my quiet time. I checked the caller and it was a friend Jenny.

Hello" I answered reluctantly.

But I was met with alively voice at the other end of the phone, "Guy hope say you don dress?(hope you're dressed), I dey show your house now (I'm on my way to your house)" she asked in pidgin english.

"Dressed for what and why?" I asked.

"The party na"

"Girl I tell you say I no dey intrested (I already told you I wasn't interested)" I answered boldly. I remembered a coursemate was having a birthday party which was all night. And regarding how I hate spending the night outside, I gave a silly excuse as to why I wouldn't come but only Jenny and a few other friend knew I was lieing. They already know I dislike parties and sleeping outside my house.

"What do you mean?, infact open your door, I dey outside your door (I'm at the door)" she commanded ending the call too.

John groaned. He wasn't expecting anyone. Especially, not someone coming to drag me to a party. I got up and reluctantly, I opened the door, and there stood Jenny, my bubbly friend.

"Girl, what are you doing here?" I asked.
"To drag you to the party!" She replied, a huge smile plastered on her face.

"But I told you that I don't want to go to any party, I'm busy," i protested.

"Doing what? From the blankets on the bed you were cuddled there when I called. Guy it's why are you so anti-social?," Sarah countered. "Anyways , why am I even asking" she shoved me aside and walked to my wardrobe and started picking out clothes.

"What are you doing"

"Getting you ready"

John sighed.

Sarah could be very persuasive and authoritative too but in a cute way. She flipped from clothes to clothes on each hanger. And when she felt satisfied, she threw me two clothes and commanded. "put those on. I'll be waiting outside while you get dressed. Five minutes max"

"Jenny hold on, I -" I tried protesting but she cut me short.

"Five minutes" I let on looking at her eager face and realized i couldn't say no.

"Fine," he said, "but I'm not promising to waste time."

"No wahala (no problem), just grab a shoe too" Sarah's face lit up and she closed the door while I dressed.

We arrived at the party, and it was a lot livelier than I had expected. A lot of our colleagues were there dancing, chatting, playing games, food and drinks were much and more especially laughing. The music was loud, but that was what helped me feel relaxed to the place. At least if someone spoke to me, I could easily pretend the music was loud so I couldn't hear anything. The energy in the room was infectious.

Later that night, Jenny pulled me onto the dance floor, I declined at first but the frame drew the whole parties attention to me and they apl cheered me on to dance, and soon I was swept up in the fun. I laughed and laughed as friends cheered me on. For the first time in months, I felt more carefree than I had been in a long time.

As the night went on, my connection with the people grew, I engaged more in activities and forgot about the time. While chatting with those strangers now turned friends I found people that I had more in common with them than I thought. Somehow I even made a few new friends.

That was the last and best party I've been to my whole life.
