Mona's Dream

Yan Krukau
Anxiety gripped her heart as she ascended the stage after hearing the voice of her parents, who came unexpectedly and uninvited. The floor became flooded with too many great dancers who she thought were more than she.

Mona had been a girl from an average home. Her father is an ordinary farmer who does not even make his way out of the great farmers. Mona's mum was a mere petty trader who only trades for daily bread.

Mona's parents only wanted the best for her, and so they decided to give her the best they could afford, which was words of encouragement. Her parents wanted her to become an accountant, but who are they to judge talents and dreams? Even though they had no money to train her at a higher institution, they were still hoping that they could make their dream for their only daughter come true.

Mona has got a talent for dancing right from her childhood and even started when she was three years of age. She was seen as a girl of dancing talent, but her parents could not support her dream.

Now she is fifteen and has forgotten her dancing dream, wanting to go for her parent's dream for her. She began to work harder in her secondary school, but could not have the mind of shouldering her parent's dream as she failed her major subjects. She was not a dull girl but was weak in mathematics and accounting.

As she was feeling frustrated while walking home, she saw a dilapidated building in which she hid herself. Something told her to revive her talent for dancing. She started clearing the dilapidated building just to put it in order. It was her grandparent's old building, which had been abandoned. She began to practice her dancing steps and was practicing so seriously without her parent's knowledge. She was doing this in secret. Passers-by heard the sweet song coming from the dilapidated building and were perplexed by what they saw.

The news got out and reached her parents. They were initially doubting, but when they sneaked out to where Mona was, they saw things for themselves, unknowingly to Mona.

She was on her way from school when she saw a poster posted outside about a dancing competition slated to be held some weeks from now. She managed to confide in one of her friends, Pat, who went with Mona to register for the dancing competition.

Likewise, she began to prepare for the competition so intensely without knowing the fact that her parents had known her plans. Not only that, but she always wondered why her parents would not scold her anytime she was back home late.

All the people in the community knew about her kind of dance and had been watching her dance daily. She is perfect while twisting her flexible body. She always looks unique while on the stage she created in the dilapidated building.

Sara, on the other hand, was from a rich home and has a sweet passion for dance. She had Mike, her uncle, who always taught and guided her in her dancing career. Her parents supported her with all their resources. They even went to the extent of buying her musical instruments of different forms just for her to perfect her perfections towards her dancing career.

Sara can never for a day without dancing or being trained on how to move the body or make the body flexible. She also put in for the upcoming competition. She lived in a nearby town not too far from Mona's.

On the day of the competition, different dancers from different places came in and displayed their dancing styles. They were called according to the way they purchase their forms. The first to purchase would be the first to perform. Meanwhile, Mona was the last person on the list, while Sara was the first.

As everyone gathered, Sara ascended the stage and took over the whole part of the dancing steps. As she began to twist her body, the crowd shouted in appraisal. The judges, as well as the audience, rose and were clapping. Sara's parents were happy to see their daughter's performance.

Every one of the competitors danced so uniquely but in their different dancing styles.

Now, it's Mona's turn. She was initially afraid as it was her first time mounting a gigantic stage filled up with audiences from different locations. She immediately remembered how she was being surrounded by different people in her mini stage in the dilapidated building. This made her gather the courage to overlook her fears just to face her dream.

As she stepped on the stage, the very first voice she heard praising her was her mum's. She was unhappy and wanted to run away, but her mum kept shouting and saying words of praise. As she turned to face the crowd, she saw her dad waving and praising her. She was cheered as the song was played. She started with a fantastic and good turning. Her flexible body was astonishing. Everyone stood up and gave her rounds of applause.

Others were out of the race, leaving Sara and Mona on the stage to finalize their dance just to get the winner. They both danced together but had different tactics. Mona was filled up with the spirit of the song being played, as well as Sara. After the dance, the judges were unable to find a winner among the two, instead, declared Sara and Mona winners.

Mona's parents were happy to see the flooding spirit and vibe their daughter had whiled on the stage, they were also happy as their daughter had finally achieved her dream. The two, Sara and Mona, hugged each other as they parted.
