How Darwin got Pickled

"My son would love me to tell you a story?" "Yes Dad". I answered. My dad told me this story because I squandered my pocket money which was to serve me for the week in just two days of the week and requested a compliment. While we were waiting for the arrival of our ordered pickled cucumbers from our grocery customer, I sat on the veranda with my Dad.

My father told a story of a man called Darwin. Darwin was a young guy still in his youth. He was sportive. He always engaged in all the games available in the city where he lived. Darwin had a lot of friends because of his social life. Some of his friends were married while some never even had the thought in their head. Darwin was best at games like table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton and the rest.

Luck showed on Darwin as there came the biggest opportunity he had to change his life forever. Some men from the United States visited Crescent City, where Darwin was basing. These men came to organize a competition in a particular sport. They called the sport "Pickleball sport". When Darwin learned about the competition he felt bad because he never knew about it and thought he couldn't play it. But his joy came to the fullest when he found out that the pickleball sport is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong which he was best at.

The entry to this competition was free as these visitors from abroad only wanted to spread the knowledge of the sport to a large population. Darwin was very afraid of entry being closed, so he dressed in his best outfit and rushed to the venue the next day to register. He was given a card which would identify him on the day of the event as a participant. The number behind the card was N001 and Darwin prayed that he would take the position of the number behind his card(first).

Time flew fast like the river. It was the D-day and the whole place was filled up with crowds from anywhere one could imagine. The competition was a one day thing and the winner would go home with a cash prize of $1m and a car painted with pickleball apparatus like the paddle, balls and others. There were also prizes for second and third and consolation prizes for the last ten participants.

Darwin was determined to win this competition and he won it. He stood on this saying,"When preparation meets opportunity, success is inevitable". After he won this great prize, his friends started coming closer to him than ever. Some of his friends he had quarreled with came to apologize and reunite once again. Darwin had planned that whenever he had such money,he would marry and start a good life. But this was not the case as he became extravagant.

He followed his friends who used to take alcoholic drinks to parties and squandered a lot of money on a daily basis. Sometimes he would take everyone's bills on himself and the bar managers would increase the price of drinks to get more money. Darwin was doing these things to please his friends and also enjoy his life but never thought of what would happen when this money is gone. Would his friends still come around? Would there still be enjoyment? He made the biggest mistake.

One fateful day, Darwin went out for a party in their usual place. They danced
and drank alcohol but they didn't smoke. Darwin and his friends never fancy smoking. But unlucky for them, some bad gangs came for a party there too and were smoking all kinds of drugs. Darwin was pickled already. He was so drunk that he was unconscious of his surroundings. When the police learned about the incident, the policemen arrived in less than an hour after they had been alerted and arrested everyone there.

By the next day when the effects of the alcohol left Darwin and his friends, they realized they were in jail already. They didn't know the offense they committed because they were so pickled during the time of the massive arrest. When they finally heard the reason why they were arrested and were warned that if they were not bailed within a week they would have to face the court. Having known the punishment for public drug abuse(7 years imprisonment with community labor), Darwin decided to leave jail. But it would be very bad for Darwin to only bail himself and leave his friends to get into prison, they would hate him to their death.

Darwin was in a pickle. He was in a situation he never imagined. The sum of money to bail himself and his friends would cost him all his physical cash and half the price of his car. In this case, he had no choice but to sell his only car he used to show off in the whole city. He sold the car, bailed himself and his friends and none of his friends said "thank you" to him but they rather hated him for keeping them in jail for five days after bailing himself and lying that he was searching who would buy his car. He felt disappointed and very sad. He learned his lesson.

My father paused and advised me to be like Darwin after he learned his lessons. He continued and said that after Darwin learned his lessons, he didn't give up, he rather looked for another means to start a better life, without bad friends.
