Its another election season in Hill state. For many years, the Elite Social Party (ESP) has held sway over the indigenes of the state and it has controlled virtually all the resources of the state. Since it is made up of the wealthiest and powerful men of the state with Chief Madu ad the flag bearer.
But this year seem to try bringing a tilt in power and snatch it from the hands of the self-proclaimed overlords, members of the ESP.
Ike, a graduate of law from the Ivory Tower University in Light City has been anonymously selected by the Youth Alliance Party (YAP) to contest for the position of the Governor. He had served as an associate with one of the leading lawyers in the state and has been involved in working on various law suits filed against the ESP led government. But they have wittingly escaped and make void all the charges pressed against them. The youths under his leadership has vowed to seize power from the old men and place it in the hands of the youth.
These men are old fashioned criminals, his campaign manager Shola has told an audience made up mainly of the youths at the Godwill stadium in Sunny town. They care nothing about the future he pressed on. All they care about is milking our state dry and storing up the wealth for their children while the people wallow in abject poverty! We will snatch this right from them and make it impossible for them to hoard our God-given resources ever again! A shout of acknowledgement has gone up from the audience which portrays total support to the YAP.
Ike is missing! Bankole said as he rushed into Shola's office.
Shola felt a snap within him and something rushed up from his stomach and was caught in his throat.
Wh... Wha... What do you mean? He asked trying to steady his cracking voice and stable his racing heart.
Ike is missing, Bankole repeated. He has not been seen since yesterday and his house is locked. We have tried calling him but its not going through he added.
Have you checked his office? Shola asked
Yes and his secretary said he has not been to his office since yesterday morning. I wonder what has gone wrong Shola added. Its unlike Ike to go off the radar.
Have you reported to the police?
Not yet. I thought i should let you know first.
Okay. Let me get my keys and lets go there at once. I suspect foul play.
Ike woke up in a room he could not recognize. The room was fairly large and neatly kept. It was fitted with iron doors and the ceiling was made of Plaster of Paris caste. Judging by the double doors in attached to two points of the room, Ike believed it was located within a building. He had left his house yesterday morning in other to go get some document from the office before going to meet his campaign manager. On pulling is car out of the garage unto the street, he noticed a black jeep trailing him and after going for about 10 minutes, the car overtook him and crossing the road forced him to stop. Three armed men rushed out of the car and dragging him out of the driver's seat, one of them hit him with the butt of the gun behind his skull. At first, all he could see were countless little stars then his head sworn and he lost consciousness. He had no doubt this was the handiwork of Chief Madu of the ESP. If not, who else could it be, he thought aloud.
His thoughts were broken my the sudden opening of on of the doors and a man in stepped in. Raising his head Ike's guess was proved right. It was Chief Madu.
Well well well! The fly as finally gotten itself caught in the spider's web Chief Madu said letting out a guttural laughter. Politics is not a game for sucklings, my dear young man neither is it a trade for inexperienced imps like you. I have warned you countless time but it seems you want to taste of my fury. Ike! Chief Madu shouted, no one test the depth of a river using both feet but is seems you want to test yours by diving right into the middle of the river and i promise you, you will drown! Chief Madu fumed.
Ike gave a loud laugh which took the Chief by surprise. Chief, he said, even if i drown, another person will take over from me and swim across. The state is tired of your exploitative rule and its ready to break out of your chains. You can't win Chief! You can't.
Chief Madu gave a snort and grabbing Ike by the neck he said, i will crush whoever takes your place until you have to successor left. With that, he walked out of the room.
How did you manage to find me? Ike asked Shola
Don't worry, i will tell you everything when we get home Shola said.
What about Chief Madu?
He is a potential jail inmate now. We will see that he does not miss it this time.
Ike looked at him friend and smiled.
Hill state will be rescued at last, no need to worry, he thought.
