D'ale Porcului a traditional gastronomic festival in Oradea, Bihor county
There is no love more sincere than the love of food (George Bernard Shaw).
Hello everyone
Today I chose to share with you something different, namely a special gastronomic festival that already has a tradition there in Oradea, if among you are hungry especially at the sight of some traditional Romanian dishes I think I should apologize now, hehe.
Usually my posts don't focus on culinary recipes or such culinary events, but from time to time I make an exception and share with you the culinary events I visit.
Just as going on a holiday you discover new places, visiting a food festival you will discover flavours, traditional recipes, tastes you didn't know about before, and after all it can be an experience in the true sense of the word, both in terms of recipes and products made by locals.
This festival already has a tradition here in Oradea it always takes place on weekends on Saturdays and Sundays, the edition I attended last year took place on the 3rd and 4th of December.
Such an event attracts a lot of visitors because it is unique, why is it unique, because during these two days of festival here meet several teams of chefs from both Romania and Serbia or Hungary.
The event has, of course, a jury, the teams entered in the competition must prepare a traditional pork dish, a total madness, now comes the jury that checks all the time the way of preparation, the ingredients used, the technique used in preparing the product, the taste of that product and last but not least its appearance.
Throughout the festival the teams are showcasing their product, you can even taste it, how can you come here and not taste these goodies.
Living in the west of Romania I knew about this gastronomic event and clearly I had already saved the 4th of December to go to Oradea, in the parking lot of Era Park mall, I was here on Sunday to fully enjoy the event.
We arrived in the mall parking lot around noon in the afternoon, the closer we got the hungrier we got.
We left the car in the parking lot and headed to the special place, from the entrance you are greeted by the smell of freshly cooked food and of course the festival mascot.
I came to the conclusion that when you're hungry don't go out to buy food, you'll buy a lot of it and you won't be able to eat it, that's what happened this time, don't worry I took it to go.
We ordered a portion of traditional food cooked by the team from Bihor county, the dish is called TOROȘ, this dish is based on fresh pork meat and pickled cabbage and of course a lot of spices and we also ordered pig ears and pickled cabbage.
There, with full bellies we start to see what these people have produced, I mention that the products are natural and if any product caught your attention you can buy it at a decent price.
We take the stalls in a row and find natural products based on pork, pickles or sweets all produced by locals.
It couldn't be a gastronomic festival without the presence of some traditional music bands, moreover we also met here two of the actors of a Romanian film released in 2021, a film that played in big cinemas all over Romania.
In conclusion, I can tell you that such gastronomic festivals can be a way to try traditional products that you can't find in big shops and to socialize.
My dear followers and visitors I hope I haven't created a craving and hunger, and for those who don't eat pork I apologize.
