Calçots is a variety of green onions quite popular in an area of Catalonia. They are eaten grilled with a special sauce made out of oil, garlic, and almonds. A Calçotada is a meal with friends or family where a bunch of calçots are grilled and everyone eats them together with the calçots sauce.
Yesterday we were having a family celebration, it was a beautiful winter sunny Sunday and we enjoyed eating them outside before entering the house to have the rest of the meal where we tasted a white wine from the Alentejo region we brought from our last trip to Portugal.
We ended the meal with a tasty chocolate pie
And I ended it with a relaxing pipe and a coffee. It was the perfect family meal on a perfect Sunday. Charging energy for the start of a busy week.
I look forward to having several more calçotadas this season. We will have to hurry as the season is quite short, the product is quite local and only a small area of the country grows it.
I recommend you have one if you travel around Bardelona during this time of the year.
