This is one of the things that happens once in a year and this is the first time i am attending an annual leacture ofy proffession which is under Nigeria institute of quantity surveyors (NIQS). I am so proud to be among those that attended this time around because it's a requirement for professional development.
The theme for this annual lecture is "REMOVAL OF FUEL SUBSIDY; POTENTIAL IMPACT ON THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AND NIGERIA ECONOMY".... recently the fuel subsidy was removed by the new president and it has caused a lot of catastrophe in the economy which people were not prepared for.
There were a lot of wonderful speaker on ground and the noticeable ones were
- Chief host: Qs olayemi shonubi who's the niqs president
- Host: Qs olarenwaju farotomi who's the chairman of niqs
- Keynote speaker: dr Gabriel ogbechi who's the group managing director rainoil limited.
- And the other people were the discussants and thry are doing well in the quantity surveying field.
This was given to us which shows material schedule for hollow sandcrete block work and it shows how the calculations are been taken and it was actually enlighten because i learnt bew ways of estimating which is also shorter.
We are in the world of AI and AI is taking over and we have to adjust to what is coming and this books enlightened us on what is needed to be done as a young quantity surveyor coming up into the field work and shows some set of skills which is needed to succeed in the coming years.
What amazed me was the latest market survey in the book because before you can get a well detailed market survey like this, you will have to go to the market yourself or pay for it but today i got it for free which is amazing and i don't have to go for any market survey anymore.
The lecture was really amazing and i enjoyed every bit of it and i can't wait to get another opportunity to experience another one. The speakers were amazing and they back up their claims with pure fact and it was really amazing to know they were all prepared before coming today.
Truly today is really Great and this is a wonderful way to go into the weekend knowing you have learnt something wonderful during the weekend and you don't have anything to do throughout yhe weekend unless i am been called up by my boss.
Finally i came across the NIQS president himself so i had to take picture of him because he was busy talking to other people and i couldn't ask him directly for a picture but I'm sure another time i will get another opportunity.
