On Sunday, January 21, during the Sinulog Festival, I awoke at dawn to attend the first mass of Señor Santo Niño. The early morning devotion marked the beginning of a day filled with vibrant celebrations and joyous festivities. After attending the early morning mass during the Sinulog Festival on Sunday, January 21, my companions and I eagerly anticipated the highlight of the day – the Sinulog street dancing at Cebu SRP. The scorching heat outside prompted us to seek refuge within the air-conditioned confines of SM Seaside Mall, where we decided to wait for the festivities to commence.
As we waited for the event to unfold, we made the most of our time by exploring the mall's offerings. The hunt for food led us to various stalls, offering a diverse range of local delicacies that catered to our taste buds. It was an opportunity to savor the flavors of Cebu while immersing ourselves in the Sinulog spirit.
Simultaneously, we took advantage of the shopping opportunities within the mall, searching for items that would serve as tangible reminders of this remarkable festival. The plethora of Sinulog-themed merchandise at our disposal was astounding. Feather headdresses, akin to the ones worn during the festivities, caught our eye, presenting an opportunity to embody the vibrant spirit of the Sinulog dancers.
Our shopping expedition extended beyond the captivating headdresses. Bags, shirts, hats, and an array of accessories adorned with Sinulog motifs were available for purchase. Each item seemed to encapsulate the festive essence of the event, making them ideal souvenirs to commemorate our Sinulog experience.
The anticipation built up during those hours of waiting only heightened our excitement for the upcoming street dancing spectacle. On the night of the festival, I decided to head to Fuente Cebu with my 2 friends, where a large crowd had gathered to experience the paint war activity—an activity that many people most enjoy during the Sinulog Festival night. Participants enthusiastically put paints on anyone and everyone present, shouting 'Pit Senyor.' It resembled a lively street party where laughter prevailed. The area featured numerous street food vendors, food stalls, bars, and a variety of souvenirs available for purchase. People danced, sang, and adorned each other with face paints, creating an atmosphere where everyone could fully enjoy the festivities.
