Weekend Freediving -- 1ST TIME!!!

I have really been wanting to try Freediving for a long long time. I just didn't have someone to do it with, and I was scared to dive underwater. But early this month, I saw this Freediving ad on Facebook. I was like, I think this is really the sign to do it. So I messaged the page that I saw, Glide Freediving and Spearfishing, and asked for their rates and available slots for this month.

Their rates are:

  • 2,500 php/person
    1hr Freediving theory
    30mins Snorkeling
2.5hrs experience Open Water Line Dive
Use of Sanitized Mask and Snorkel
    Resort Admission Fee
  • 2,250 php/person (squad rate; group of 4)
    1hr Freediving theory
    30mins Snorkeling
2.5hrs experience Open Water Line Dive
Use of Sanitized Mask and Snorkel
    Resort Admission Fee
  • 3,000 php/person (exclusive session; group of 3)
    1hr Freediving theory
    30mins Snorkeling
2.5hrs experience Open Water Line Dive
Use of Sanitized Mask and Snorkel
    Resort Admission Fee

After knowing their rates, which I think is not that bad, I messaged one of my friends and really persuaded her to do Freediving with me. 😂 Lucky me... she got convinced. 😊 so we booked on December 19, 2021 (Sunday). Good thing is, she invited two of her friends, so we got the Squad rate.

We arrived at Port of Babak, Island Garden City of Samal at 7:03 am. They picked us up like around 7:30am. The travel time from Port of Babak to our destination is almost like an hour.

When we arrived to our destination, we took a rest for 10 mins then Glide let us watched a 14min video about Freediving. After watching the video, we had a quick introduction about ourselves, what's our confidence level when it comes to swimming and how did we know about Freediving. By the way, there were 2 teams on that day.

Then we had Freediving theory for more than an hour. We were having snacks while listening to the instructor. He taught us the basic freediving lessons, like what to do and what not to do during freediving, how to equalize, and other basic stuff.

Freediving, according to our instructor is a sports for lazy people, because it requires too much relaxation. Relaxation is the most important part of Freediving. It is the key to effective equalization, keeping your carbon dioxide levels from rising too quickly, and preserving your oxygen levels. I was like, gosh, I don't think I can do this cause I'm an overthinker. LMAO

I think we finished the class almost 12 noon, and we were so hungry lol. We didn't expect that the class will take that long HAHAHHAA. After class we took a 10min break so we can change outfits, and take a group photo... we didn't have our lunch yet. HAHAHA.. So we did snorkeling for 30mins before doing the Open Line Diving. We stayed in the water for like 3 hours, with an empty stomach. BRUH 😅

Sadly, I didn't have photos while we were in the water. I wish I have a Go Pro. Maybe soon, I need to buy one for my adventures. 😊

This is me after doing the Open Line Diving. Bruh, I thought it was easy, but it's not! I thought that if you can hold your breath for a long time, you can do Freediving so easily, but I was wrong. Holding your breath too long isn't enough, you should also learn how to equalize to avoid ear injury. The key to go deeper is proper EQUALIZATION, because when you dive deep, there's gonna be more pressure into your ears, and it really hurts! You might get your ears injured if you don't know how to equalize.

I managed to reach 4 meters on my first time in Freediving, which they said isn't bad for first timers. Equalization is kinda hard especially when you have stuffy nose. haha Unfortunately, 2 days before our Freediving, I got Allergic Rhinitis, and it was really bad. So when we did the Freediving, my nose was stuffy, but it wasn't that bad anymore cause I took antihistamine, and multivitamins the day before.

So yeah, we had fun. Though, I was kinda disappointed of myself cause I didn't reach 5 meters. I think I can reach 5 meters if my nose wasn't clogged cause I can equalize more, but it's okay, 4 meters isn't bad, there'll always be next time. I am really competitive, sometimes. 🤣 I will probably do this again next month, and hopefully I can reach 5 meters on my 2nd time and hopefully no more clogged nose.
