I’m really quite odd; not just a little weird, more like “cuckoo”. You know nuts! One manifestation of my craziness is that I constantly talk to myself. Not only do I project my thoughts aloud, I argue with “me” - that’s the truly untenable issue, I “answer myself.”
The first sign of madness is talking to yourself, the second sign is replying.

Clearly, I shouldn’t be talking back, and at the moment I’m actually engaging in a running battle with myself - you see I’m trying to quit smoking!
It’s not as difficult as I thought it might be and I’m into the third smokeless day, but damn, there’s this little devil on my shoulder telling me that a few puffs, or a single smoke “WILL NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE.” Of course anyone who has ever had any type of addiction will tell you that ONE DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE, and I can’t have any; none at all.
Oh, my, that little devil is unbelievably convincing, and “he” knows me so well, “he’s” got everything mapped out logically, so that I’ll accept it - this morning I’ve been listening to “him” and searching under cushions, in drawers, under crockery for a packet of cigarettes I might have displaced (this is quite feasible since I smoke more than a packet a day).
The little devil
Smoking is the only thing you’ve ever truly been good at. Why do you need to quit, just cut down, go on, you can control it?
The little angel
Bullshit, excuse me for swearing.
Look, thank heavens (Haha (devils and angels)) that I don’t think the voices are real or that they belong to someone else, cos then I’d truly be knackered.
I KNOW THEY’RE ALL ME
BUT STILL, IT’S RATHER DISCONCERTING WHEN A CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER SAYS
Who are you chatting to, honey?
I thought I heard you arguing
