Today is a special day here for us at Planetauto, as we welcome the first Volkswagen we have ever had on review:
On first inspection, it is a beautiful car, and the upholstery pays homage to the Mk1 Golf (but more on that later!)
We have our own classic Golf - a Mk2 16V rocket, that as of right now, is in for restoration. For now, we will have to make do with this one ;)
The Mk7 Golf GTE first launched in 2014, and it was the first electrified performance model from Volkswagen.
This Mk8 Golf is now available as a GTI, a GTD, a GTE, an R, and a Club Sport (and the list goes on...)
The model we have is a GTE Plug in Hybrid, and is powered by a 1.4L engine that also has a 110 PS electric motor, and is coupled to a 6 speed DSG.
This Mk8 GTE has a battery with 50% more energy capacity than before (13 kWh) and an electric-only range of up to 39.7 miles and a range of over 240 miles (WLTP) and is designed to always start up in electric only mode.
The price for this model costs just under £40,000.00 with options.
Full review coming soon.
