What's up plebs?
It's been a while since I showed you one of my coins. Well, today's pick is something I got last week along with some other beauties that will be featured in due time.
And yes, it's yet another silver Deutsche Mark ๐
Shiny _
So, what we have here is a 10 Deutsche Mark piece minted in 1989 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the German Federal Republic. Simply known as Germany.
Let's have a closer look on it:
As you can see, it's super shiny with a nice mirror finish that gave me a pain in the ass till I managed to take some decent photos.
If you like coat of arms in a coin then this is a must have, since you are getting not one..not two...not three...But 11 for the price of one!
Specifically, we have the Coat of arms of the 11 "Lรคnder" of Germany:
- Lower Saxony - horse
- North Rhine-Westphalia - river, horse and rose
- Rhineland-Palatinate - cross, wheel and lion
- Bremen - key
- Schleswig-Holstein - 2 lions and nettle leaf
- Baden-Wรผrttemberg - 3 lions
- Bavaria - diamonds
- Berlin - bear
- Saarland - 2 lions, cross and 3 eagles on a ribbon
- Hamburg - castle
- Hesse - lion
What's even better is that I have a special version of the coin where the flags are gold plated. Neato!
In case you wonder, a lander is pretty much the equivalent of a state. Today, Germany has 16 so you may ask why only 11 flags. Well, I am too lazy to verify but this coin was issued before the reunification of Germany on 3 October 1990. I guess 5 more were added in 1990 with the addition of East Germany :)
Btw, if you take a closer look you will notice that the strings uniting the flags in the coin form the number 40... symbolizing the 40 years of the GFR back when the coin was issued. Duh ๐
Nice attention to the detail though :)
Ok, let's see some pics of the other side!
Nothing special here. As always, a unique design of the angry imperial eagle. Remember, gotta catch em all ! ๐
And by the off chance you somehow missed that this a coin for the 40 years of Germany.. Don't worry! The edge is here to make things clear... Again!
It reads
40 JAHRE FRIEDEN UND FREIHEIT
For
40 Years of Peace and Freedom
And now let's talk precious metals. We have 15.5 g of 0.625 purity, which translates to roughly 9.7 g of pure silver.
With today's spot at $0.90 per gram we have 8.7 $ worth of melting value. Not bad ๐
Fingers crossed, silver will continue to pump like it has for the past few days ๐๐๐๐
All in all, yet another beautiful commemorative silver coin from Germany. Plus, this one is super shiny and gold plated, I am thrilled I closed it for close to spot!
Ok plebs, this is it for today! See you soon with more silver!
