You don't have a choice on whether or not to pay taxes. They take them, or will literally throw you in jail or use violence on you if you don't pay.
You can vote on how your money is spent, but usually you have very little actual control. And if you lose the vote, you can't opt out. You're stuck.
Taxation, quite literally, is theft. Or extortion, if you prefer.
Now the voluntary sector (where you get to choose to opt out) is infinitely more efficient and moral than the theft-based sector. We should move over everything we can to this sector.
Violence-based government has been the norm for millennia. We can't solve it overnight, but I believe we can remove theft wherever possible, and keep the theft-based sector as small as we can.
Ultimately, I think we can get rid of it entirely. But even before that, we have a lot of size-reduction to do.
